Hi,
I've run the map rendering script on all TacOps maps that I had on my HD. The image quality take a hit when I convert from 24-bit to 8-bit colors as suggested in the manual. On my laptop, the high quality maps run smoothly, but it is a pretty recent machine: let me know if you'd like to try the high quality maps. A strange quirk is that the larger the map, the lower is the sun and longer the shadows...

Both archives (zip, tgz) contain the same files. It is a ~120Mb download that needs to be expanded in the _Battles folder to replace the original folder. The "individual" folders contains ONLY the bmp files, indexed by the map name. I don't mind sending out a burned CD for interested people on dialup.
The plan is to run the software from TacOpsHQ in the near future. It will be possible to manually edit the heightmap and the rough map as well as other parameters from the browser.
Hope that you'll enjoy, let me know if you do.
Here is a preview for Map001c : http://www.opcon.org/~bongo/MapMasker/RP/individual/Map001c.bmp
Map218 is a good example of how roughness and height representation can be standadized:
