Welcome to Supporting Fire 2020!

For the ninth year in row we are organizing Supporting Fire, this year during the weekend of November 20-22nd. Supporting Fire is a "Blind Round" tournament, which means that the players won't know which scenarios are to be played until the round starts. We prepare every round with a presentation of the scenarios to choose from, with maps, SSR's, special rules, etc etc.

Of course we are aware of the current world situation, and we count on that the participants show common sense. Ie, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer (the facilities will be filled with soap and sanitizer), don't drool at each other, and stay home if you are sick.
It is your own responsibility if you attend or not.

As of today we are 17 registered players, we will probably be around 20.

Where: The Gaming Club of Armagedon, Borås, outside Gothenburg, Sweden.
When: Friday November 20 to Sunday November 22.
How: Nice and fun!

The fee is 500 SEK (≈ 50 USD or EUR) which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, place to sleep at the club if you don't stay at a hotel and there's also a shower at the club of course. There will be beer for sale, and the club have a kiosk with candy, snacks, food and beverage.

As usual we will have an awesome weekend and I hope for safe and sound participants!

We are planning to do some live coverage during the weekend. Half the number of attendees due to you know what, but here's the line up!

In addition, we are holding a VASL mini on Saturday/Sunday with scenarios from the main tournament for 3 Danes and a Swede who couldn’t make the real thing due to “the disease that may not be named” 😀

Friday evening went well with Mattias Bergwall as RD. All games decided to play ASL233 Failure To Communicate, expect one match that played SP158 The fond dagot drag out. Nobody wanted to play SP195 Retreat from Hannut by some reason.

Now it's Saturday morning and all games have started. Derek Ward had choosed three scenarios from the Syrian front 1941. Again, everybody choosed to play one particular scenario, SP71 Cutler's Cross. Only one game is J184 Dayan to meet you, and nobody wanted to play ASL249 Showdown in Syria (which I would have choose, it look insanely fun!).

Attached are some photos from the event.

That Swede is me😀. Though “Couldn’t” should be replaced with “wouldn’t” (No 😀!)

Sunday round consist of FT92 No Fortress Is Impregnable, J161 Riding to the Rescue and WO33 One-Eyed Jacques.

Melvin have, according to the tournament rules, won the tournament, but he has offered Ola the win if he beats Melvin, due to inherent point difference. :)
Here they are playing One-Eyed Jacques. Also note that Ola is wearing Melvins old jacket (that got teared and thrown away yesterday), all to psyche Melvin. :D

The VASL mini ended after three hard-fought rounds with a heavily packed victory building. Suddenly I realized one of the benefits of VASL as it would have been crazy trying to deal with so many counters! 15508

I so envy you guys in Sweden, playing face to face. I also envy your government's response to the Coronovirus. Bravo!

For the non-Swedes: there was some extraordinary luck in timing here. After arguably being one of only two countries in the First World with a Laisser-faire approach to Covid, the other one being the USA, the Swedish government is in the process of shifting course. As announced a week ago, starting tomorrow, the 24th of November, all gatherings of more than 8 people are forbidden, and any Organizer of such a gathering will face up to 6 months of jail.

We can all have different individual opinions on lockdown measures, but after politically ignoring what all other west-European, Anzac, East-Asian countries and WHO were saying, the Swedish government now seems to be saying: you were mostly right.

And there is a loud “we told you so” coming from Denmark, Norway and Finland🤪🤪🤪

So Swedish tournaments will be VASL tournaments as well for some time, I am afraid.

Indeed this seems to be the case. I, for one, do not envy the people in the US or living under governments that have a laisser faire attitude. I do respect different opinions, but the virus does not care about them.
As a consequence, opinions on the virus might turn with a vengeance.

That said, I hope that people of any opinion just stay healthy. We will overcome this and eventually FtF tournaments will be held again under safe conditions, from ASLOK, the drinking bouts in Sweden lightened up by some ASL, to the counter alignment contests with an annex of ASL rules in Germany. ;)

Cheers,
von Marwitz

The government is lawbreakers, to try to enforce their agenda upon us, the law is on our side vs the rulers
For the non-Swedes: Sweden is totally upside down right now. For 10 months a social-democratic government upheld a Laisser-faire policy against Corona. Many people never understood why but the "far far right" implicitly supported this policy of a socialist party. Last week the same government made a 180 degree turn to a policy more consistent with that of all other west-European countries. This move is largely supported by the the parliamentary parties to the right (well - I am not sure about the rightmost one right now), but the far-far-right is now yelling ""lawbreakers" just as their counterparts in the US or Germany do. Most of them just not as loudly, they are Swedes after all :) .
