The bigger problem for the Japanese is that during the early scenarios they have just barely enough units to man the creek line if they don't suffer heavy casualties. If they lost a large number of squads in a bold counter-attack at night the Japanese would have to thin out their line during the next day. Even if the Japanese traded even (squad for squad) the Americans can concentrate their force when attacking during the next day. Playing a conservative strategy I found my Japanese purchases rushing to bolster the defense against American cross-creek assaults. They were just able to do it. For the first few CG dates at least the Japanese will probably have between fifteen and twenty squads plus a few guns and/or MGs to cover twenty-six creek-edge hexes. I would be concerned that the line could rupture on the 3 AM CG date if the Japanese lose on the order of, say four squads in the 2 Night CG date.
