Having played a few scenarios lately using some early boards, it made me curious if any boards out there invoke a strong memory for any of you as soon as you see it. This could be anything from a scenario that instantly comes into mind when you see it, a love or loathing of a particular board, something incredible (or bizzare) happened on it, or something completely different.
For example, board 1 without question will always be The Streets of Stalingrad to me. My friend and I battled over the two sides of that board and then the whole board over and over in our SL days. Others that come to mind is The Chateau de Quesnoy for board 6 and Gavin’s Gamble and The Dinant Bridgehead for board 7. We have played many other scenarios with those boards but those are the ones that always pop in my head as soon as I see them.
As for other reactions, whenever I saw board 4, I knew someone was going to get slammed because that was basically the only open ground board in the early days. In fact, I still kind of don’t like that board to this day because it seemed like it was so overused. Board 3 meant you either had to take building 3M2 or have it packed with guys to defend the hell out it since it was so dominating in those early scenarios.
As you can see, my strong memories come from the earlier boards. With such slim pickings back then, those boards got etched in my mind.
Now that my friend and I are one and done scenario players, the newer boards just don’t evoke the same memories for me. So what about you? Any boards that instantly remind you of something? If so, what and why?
