I’ve made this account specifically for this Idea I had several months ago. ASL, but translated to Star Wars. Admittedly I don’t have much ASL experience, but I like the game system and the community. I drew up some initial squads for clone troopers and wanted some brutal yet constructive feedback, so here’s the rundown;

two most common blasters were DC15 and DC15A, so there are two squad types

numbers next to boxes are the stats for half squads

I only initially made 3 experience levels, but I’ll probably change it to 4

they are supposed to be hard to break, but in my little experience breaking is sometimes good, so suggestions for that would be nice.

the tiles to the left are weapon tiles, and represent specialist weapons or exceptional shooters like in asl, they also possibly could be used for elite clone squads, arc troopers, or commandos

also I write small so sorry about that.

Star Wars combat is based on Napoleonic tactics, which predate the use of squad-sized maneuver elements.

It's a fun idea, probably moreso for the vehicles.

I don't see a firepower value that reflects the fact that stormtroopers couldn't hit the floor if they fell out of bed... 🤣
I may have forgotten to mention that the squads are supposed to be clone troopers, not storm troopers

Some time back I floated the idea that it was the system and not the WWII aspect of the game that made it great. This idea was soundly rejected. I proposed that you could take Guards Counterattack, change the title to Space Guards Counterattack, use the OB as given and simply modify the intro and nomenclature to take place in the future and play the scenario just like ASL.This did not go over well.😔😔😔☹☹

Although the community accepts pre and post WWII variants apparently there are, or were limits to how far far away they are willing to go.😉

I have to admit that I was surprised that leaving everything the same and just calling things different names met with such disapproval. 🤔🤔

Hi All

My 2 cents - as I get older, I go deeper and deeper into understanding the game and the rules - it becomes a game more than before.
I have found the Historical part I used to turn to ASL for (and still do!) needed more and I have turned to other sources of books/mags and even back to model tanks that in 2021 are much better than the ones I built in the 70's - I figured I enjoyed the game more when I made it a game and used it for that - can't wait to be less busy and have time for even just live VASL

So when chess rules are used in a non chess game - the enjoyment goes - I have only played chess so I can't be but a reporter of others opinions
Closer to home is using ASL rules in miniatures - not easy for many but some have done it - I tried but struggled

So - there was Civil war, a WWI and the rules struggle there a lot - I gave away my games since they struggled so much

What do we do with fantasy - remember we still have not made it to Mars! and the Laser guns we have are currently like when the Romans used fireballs in their catapults (I think Atilla was the first to use them actually in a more effective way)

I personally would try and play the latest scenario or find the time to take down the French in a 1940 campaign

We have a designer of this type of product - Bill WIlder - his products are varied but not fantasy and they come into this very tiny spot - purchased by few in single digits - played by even less

Cheers

Rob :)

Indeed - you may have missed it though, but sadly, Bill passed away last year.

Haters gonna hate.

Setup a VASL extension, toss out some boards, playtest some scenarios and you're good to go, Albus.

Thankyou Michael

I did miss that and it is sad and a loss to our community that gets older and smaller as time passes

East Side Gamers Zombie pack was somewhat of a hit, as I recall.

Go for it!

Well, this is... inspired!

I reckon this was originally a 3-player scenario but you struck out the third party - Jah Jah Binks - because playtesting revealed that he never made it til the end of the first half-turn since EVERY TIME he was vaporized in the concentrated fire of BOTH sides?
