The Yankees just gobbled up Detroit's all-star catcher for a reliever. Bad move for us I think. Looks like our GM is throwing in the towel on the season.

It's not like we've NEVER heard the phrase, "wait until next year" before.

Around here that's the official sports mantra (except for the WINGS anyway).

Rodriguez is hardly an All Star anymore. Farnsworth is finally pitching well and gets traded. It should help both teams.

Yeah but Pudge was the heart of the team in the locker room. He will be missed for more than his stats.

That is the way the local Detroit sports-talk stations are spinning it. I'm listening to the Tigers/Indians game right now and they are singing the praises of both Inge and Farnsworth. Eye-witnesses say it was an unusually emotional scene in the clubhouse before the game when Dombrowski and Leyland exited the manager's office after the meeting with I-Rod, and they all informed the other players who were milling around in the hallway. :upset:

I-Rod joined my Tigers when they were practically the worst team in history, took us to the World Series, and helped Verlander pitch his no-hitter.

They say the players were all crying and hugging him goodbye. ME TOO! :OHNO:

Now that the Yankees have an I-Rod, A-Rod, all they need is an O-Rod, E-Rod, and they can suck My-Rod!

What do you mean spinning it? He isn't an All Star. He was from 2004-2007 but most of those were because of popularity and because he had been before. His intangibles will be missed but you needed a closer or late inning guy more than you needed a 36 year old catcher who is on the decline.

Why would they put up with it though? It sends a bad message to fans and other players when you let him get away with such behavior just because he can hit.
The front office tends towards dispassionate decisions, which can cut both ways. Really, in the skewed economics of MLB, he's a bargain at $20 Mill; unless they can replace his productivity (at a hopefully younger age) he's going to stay in Boston.

They're working on a deal with the Marlins for 3 young prospects.

Shocking!!! I wonder how Pudge will handle the Yankee Clubhouse. He's not even the 6th best guy on the team...not a knock against him but I know he's very full of himself. I had the same concerns about ARod and look how long it took for him to get adjusted....

CHIMPENSTEIN! :freak:

At the best we're breaking even, and at the worst the season is over! How is that good for a Tigers fan? :blab:

What if you get better? Why don't you wait and see how the team reponds?

So far it's a mixed bag ...

Robertson coughed up a ton of runs to the Indians

Inge smacked one out of the park

The Tigers started out facing a huge deficit tonight and now they're within a couple of runs. At present the score is 8 to 6 in the top of the sixth. :supper:

Yeah but the good news is they hit Lee like he hasn't been hit this season.

Now just push a couple more across the plate.

Gotta disagree with Psycho here. Pudge's offensive stats may not have been all-star worthy during the later years but his defense and his gunning down runners is still near the top of the league. Teams just don't run on him.

Right now ...

Walk, error, error, and hit by pitch --- now it's an 8 to 7 game.

The bases are loaded with Tigers and one out :yummy:

Thames at the plate and he can smack one! [EDIT: Strikeout!]

The world waits with baited breath.

[EDIT2: Ordoñez grounded out]

Now it's up to the newly demoted Todd Jones. :OHNO:

D@MN ... Jones coughs up a two run shot. Well I'm out of here tonight. I've got to get to work and I can't sit around BS'ing anymore. Besides, that HR pretty much sealed the deal tonight.
