Here are two more movies:

http://www.russianbeat.com/v_tree.cfm?TITLEIDCLICKED=1383&TYPE=%C2%EE%E5%ED%ED%FB%E5
“Two soldiers” (“Два бойца”)!!! – It is a very famous movie that was produced in 1942, during WWII!!!. This movie was very popular in USSR during WWII. It is a movie about two friends-soldiers who are defending Leningrad. There are no many combats in this movie, it is a movie about the feelings of the soldiers.

The song “Dark night” (“Темная ночь”) from this movie was one of the best Soviet songs of WWII.

“A rise” (“Восхождение”)

This movie is a drama about two partisans who came in a village but suddenly the Germans arrived…

Thanks to Andrey for providing a comprehensive list (#95). I have just viewed "Come and See" and endorse the reviews of it being one of the best ever war films. A staggering performance by the 13 year old lead actor. I got the excellent re-mastered version - Russian with English subtitles rather than the Far Eastern 2 DVD set.
Shame that "Liberation" does not have English subtitles.
I will certainly be looking for other titles from the list with English subtitles.

If I found English subtitles while I was searching my list so I made a comment "there is an English version!". Look it in my list, the movies with such comment have English subtitles.

1. I have seen the Russian mini-TV series "Red Capella".

It is about "Red Capella" spy net, it is about the struggle of Soviet spies operated in Paris in 1940-42 and German counter-intelligence group "Red Capella" under the command of Gestapo officer Giring. The movie is good, the most part of names is real but it distorts the facts. There are a lot of fictional episodes and some events can not be explained from the positions of logic.

It is based on the memoirs of L. Trepper (lived in France with the name Jean Zhilber), his deputy "Kent" became a traitor in the movie.

But according the newest data real hero was not Trepper but "Kent" who was not deputy of Trepper in Paris but who was an independent resident of Soviet intelligence in Belgium, he was only a former subordinate of Trepper when Trepper was the resident in Belgium and later they had contacts from time to time.

So this movie gives incorrect image of real "Red Capella". But it is good if to speak about emotions, the love story is good, the movie is looked easily but sometimes it is not understandable why do heroes do their actions which look very strange.

2. Also I want to add that from September, 29th of 2005 the Russian cinemas will begin to show brand new Russian movie "The 9th Company" by Fiodor Bondarchuk. It is about Afghanistan events. The advertisement campaign is very powerful, it looks like it is a very good movie.

A few days ago watched very old movie "Sleduju svoim kursom" ("Heading my course"), 1974, b/w
http://www.ozon.ru/context/detail/id/2342720/?partner=AMVAS

It's based on real story of the last voyage of big ships to Sevastopol in June 1942. They were destroyer "Bezuprechny" and destroyer leader "Tashkent".
As far as I'm familiar with details of that voyage, I can say that details of this mission was shown enough correctly. Some exaggeration do presents, but in quite a negligible episodes. What amazed me was absolute absense of mentioning of Communist party what was almost impossible to do that time. I can't get, how producer managed to escape! Maybe I missed something, but only once I heard word "commissar"....

Of course special effects are not like in "Pearl-Harbour" But real vehicles of WW2 times were used ....
Airplanes, of course were not historical, but as they were shown from far distance it's not essentual. I only once could identify one airplane as Be-12

Regards,
Alex

I do not remember that movie but it have to be good one.

It was about the time when Sevastopol was blocked by the Germans and only ships and submarines connected it with the Soviets.

The ships brokethrough in Sevastopol with supply and replacements and returned back with wounded under constant attacks of German planes.

it's original novel by Bondarev

It's original novel by Semenov
http://militera.lib.ru/prose/russian/semenov2/index.html

This movie is translated in English, it is one of the Soviet/Russian movies that are available in the West. May be, it is because Rodion Nakhapetov, the actor who played the main role in the movie, is living in US for last 20 years.

It depends from a concrete movie. Some movies have no subtitles, some movies have Russian subtitles, some movies have Russian and English subtitles, some movies are completely translated in English and the voices are in English.
