I asked one of the moderator politely if the event I am promoting would be pinned. He was happy to comply.

Maybe asking nice would work for you as well?
Indeed - I believe I was the one who answered your demand.
Ask and moderators quite certainly will do it.
We should also be wary to unpin past events.

I’ve been pinning tournament threads without anyone asking and removing the pins when the tournament has passed. I thought it was a good idea.
It is a great idea. I authorize the mods to do so whenever they see a new tournament thread. I'd give about four to six weeks post tournament before unpinning. Sound ok to you guys?
