...What I'd like to see in the future is the US or South Koreans on the attack. Every scenario we played was basically the UN forces holding off a horde of North Koreans.
Rally Point 15 has 10 Korea War scenarios, with 6 of them having the North Koreans defending

Yeah, I read about the scenarios in a thread a while back. What stopped me from ordering it is that six of the scenarios are tournament sized (I assume that's what tournamax means). I've read good things about them in what little I've seen in the threads. I just prefer more meaty scenarios that allow me a chance to recover from the mistakes I inevitably make! Maybe down the road, however...

Depends on definition of size, I guess. 7 of the 10 have both sides with 10 or more squads, plus AFV and/or ordnance.

Got my first 2019 game in today. The Taiwanese ASL blog mentioned The Bridge of Verdalsöra [J36] as a good three player scenario and so it was. I took the defending Norwegians with British allies despite the German edge of 45 to 37 in ROAR. I figured two players on one side was enough of a balance. The Germans need 20 CVP points w/o losing 12 CVP and on the last turn they had 12 of the 20 with the loss of only 1 CVP. It looked grim since one CC and an easy capture would bring them to 16 and four squads and the 9-2 were poised to get off the board with my only chance being two defensive fires at 2 -2. I rolled threes in both attacks thus denying the Germans a victory. I had shot poorly most of the game until when it really, really counted. C'est la guerre!

I just had a six hour training session with two total newbies. I explained the (SK) rules and let them play S1 Retaking Viervielle against each other, while I did some coaching from the sideline (and in the end, because time was an issue, did most of the shot calculations for them). In the end, it was a rather lopsided American victory, but we had a good time, and they want to play again. :)

My wife, a retired teacher, told me recently I never would have had the patience to be an educator. One of the few times I could actually agree with her 100%. Good that you are doing this. Deutscher ASL muss wachsen!

Played my third "tanks must exit the end of the world" scenario in as many weeks. Not planned, just worked out that way. Moved back to WW II, Sicily this time, and first up was A8 Gruppo Mobile. I dusted off my deluxe boards for this one. Man, I forgotten how much space they take up when laid end-to-end. Using them added nothing, IMHO, as the counter density is very low. I think these boards are best suited for larger scale actions where stacking is an issue. Anyway, as usual, I played as the Axis. Not much for the Italians to do but keep on moving and hope for bad rolls from the Americans. There is a provision for the Italians to win by getting 8 CVP but I'd say the chances of that happening are exactly nil. So, keeping my tanks in motion, I lost one to a BAZ, two to DCs, and one on a Stun Recall (I had to risk going CE for that particular tank so it could just have enough movement to exit). One more tank lost and it would be over. I tried an ESB attempt with one tank (not wanting the 37LL AT Gun to get another crack at it the following turn) and made it - even with a +5 modifier. Down to my last tank to exit, my friend fumbled his rolls to engage in Street Fighting from two different hexes allowing me to exit the last tank I needed. Sounds more exciting than it was. To be fair, the dice didn't do my friend any justice in this scenario. He only got off two shots with his bazookas before they both ran out of ammo and one of his squads failed in two successive player turns to pass a PAATC with the 10-2 leader modifying the roll. Harsh. If this wasn't an official (AH/MMP) scenario, we would have skipped it. Besides, my friend and I already played it forever ago (even though I have no recollection of it). Best I can say is it plays fast. Maybe a good training scenario for someone new to try bazookas in the city, DCs vs tanks, and Street Fighting. Otherwise, "Move along. Nothing to see here."

Played Steel Garden from Bounding Fire. It's a 3-mapper with the blitzkrieg Germans crossing board 6's stone wall and orchard terrain with the objective of controlling three buildings behind the woods on the board 64. Against them were several Polish "Gruppo Immobile" which had 5-MP tanks requiring careful consideration on set up, along with green and 1st-line minors and a 57L. Our tank fights had lots of duds, hull down hits, and "11" breakdowns. The 57L was a star, winning a close combat against a half squad, wrecking two panzers and breaking an 8-1 and its three 4-6-7s. However the Germans had this game in hand by the top of Turn 7, needing to only take out two Polish leaders who had routed upstairs in the buildings. Would play again.

Played 53 A High Price to Pay as the attacking Italians. Fun - but not necessarily because it was a great scenario. For the past month, the dice have either been very kind or very evil to either my friend or myself. The dice calmed down in this scenario with the usual highs and lows expected in a good game. Finally. I attacked on three sides and made quick progress in the west. I began steadily rolling up the side using my lone surviving AC to freeze up strongpoints. Eventually, the 2:1 majority in squads began to weigh heavily on the British and by turn 6 (of 8.5) all they had left were two 1/2 squads. By the bottom of the turn, both died, ending the game. Tough fight for both sides. Taking out that pillbox took a lot of firepower. Pretty good balance in ROAR with the Italians slightly favored. I'd agree with this.

Played S2 War of the Rats yet again as I brought another post family/marriage player back into the fold. Everyone welcome Zeke Bleakley back to the fold and pray he takes the dive in as he's my first FtF player within 20 minutes I've had in my entire life....
It's amazing how differently this one plays out each time and how tight it is no matter how good or bad things go at the start. I never seem to finish it as there is a lot of instruction going on each time, but always fun.
This time I confidently assault his flank which he has left ripe to be turned. I demonstrate in clinical detail the vagaries of smoke, as 3 of 4 of my 548's fail to get smoke despite a 4 smoke exponent. This leaves no less than 4 broken squads in the street along with a leader. Elsewhere, my doom stack of 3 squads, 2 LMGs and MMG with the 8-1 confidently break a single unit in his line. But, being an excellent instructor, I use this as a teaching moment to demonstrate the risk factor inherent in stacking as they suffer a 12+3 snake eyes resulting in each and every unit breaking and failing ELR.
The game featured more fun moments including a few examples of Failure to Rout, DC's to the face failing to explode, and much FT fun. In the end, the rookie was able to claim a presumed victory (we had to cut it short) in a close match despite the disastrous GT1.

My first completed game in 2019 is one that I started with Magnus Rimvall last year on December 18. I had the defending Germans in FrF100 DEUTSCH LESSON. I set up two HS and a PSK in a foxhole in hex CC1 to protect the German right flank. I had a 548 with LMG in CC4 and a 447 squad in a foxhole in CC6 adjacent to the wood-road. I was afraid to put that unit in the DD6 woods road hex because of easy overrun, but in the future I would probably do it. I had the captured British ATG in the FF7 building with its CA pointing to the German left flank. I put the three ? in a foxhole in FF8 to confuse where the PSK might be. Magnus attacked mostly up the British right flank. He lost one loaded halftrack to the 447 PF attack, but a second loaded halftrack drove through to unload a PIAT team near the stone wall. The captured British ATG missed on its first shot and broke on its second shot. I destroyed it in the following fire phase. The Germans were able to make use of the road despite the presence of the PIAT team so close. I decided to sacrifice a Stg to take them out, but the PIAT missed and the overrun got them. I put the 9-2 armour leader in the StuH because I wanted to focus on killing infantry. In the early going, I had better luck with TK rolls than Magnus, and I did not lose one AFV during the entire game. The action eventually focussed on the two woods hexes FF7 and FF8 on the German left. Magnus got several squads there, but I just managed to hurt them enough by fire and by CC to win the game. On the last turn, Magnus had 4VP of infantry in those woods and needed to rally up 4 more points to have a chance. I had made them all DM and forced them out of woods, however, and he did not rally them.

Gavins Take. First full ASL for my co-worker. We've been playing SK the past year so we decided to start with this one. We played at the SoCal ASL Club weekly meetup. I took the defending Germans. Having read lots of AARs on this I sent a 447 to dig the foxholes on the exit hex. My opponent likes to stack so I made him pay with my first Prep fire shot of turn one. Broke the 10-3 and 3 squads. I then moved a squad on one side and a squad and leader on the other (squad broke from DF but the leader survived) for the surrender. HAHA!

Last American turn he broke the squad in the foxhole, surrounded it, captured it but could not advance off the board to fulfill the VC.

We had fun and learn a lot.

Fen, That was fun to watch the last few turns where Jim though he had no way of winning then turn around the swarm you for the win.

Jim's luck finally changed a bit at the end and the last buidling fell a lot quicker than he had anticipated. Our club president is one of the most fun opponents to play against and I hope you ask to play him a few times this year. Good to see you getting Guy into some full ASL. I hope you cured him of the desire to stack so much. :)

Road to Destruction DftB DB142 Germany, April '45, a lone "Maus" with a mixed bag of supporting vehicles and troops, has to either exit the wonder weapon, or inflict twice the CVP earned by the Soviets. The Soviets get random reinforcements. My opponent went with the inflict damage conditions: And the Maus tore up a lot of my tanks and one 100mm ATG. But, I was able to whittle away at the escort troops, and finally launched into multiple CCs with the monster. The snoogiewoofer worked well, but weight of numbers prevailed, and the Maus was immo'ed, then destroyed. Soviet victory. Fun scenario.

BFP-29 Hueishan Docks - A Chinese attack to take river edge warehouses from the IJA early in the war. Big scenario. Chinese and IJA met head on at the middle warehouse, and the IJA held on to it. This scenario features a city fight (Shanghai) between these two nations with a big OOB and some cool vehicles. Its found in BFP Blood and Jungle.

One of the best ever KMT v IJA scenarios.

Currently playing ASL-128 "The Defense Of Luga".

ASL-128-Rus-09-RPh-jpeg.jpg

All but 3 of the Russian tanks are destroyed. No HIP units remain. The Russians need 8 more stone buildings. With 5 turns to go, its a tight game.....
