This one came up the other day in a game and we couldn't track down a rule that handled it.

The tank is at level 1; the squad at level 2. , The LOS between the two units does not intersect the level 2 slope line so the LOS is not blocked. The center hex dot of the smoke hex is at level 2, so by B10.1 that places the base of the smoke hex at level 2.

The question is: Is there any hinderance to fire between the two units? One could argue that since the smoke is closer than halfway to the tank he should be able to trace an LOS under the base of the smoke. Since the smoke is inherent if any part of the smoke hex falls halfway between the target and firing hex, is it then hindered?

The LOS does not go through level 2 of the intervening hill hex, where the smoke is, and therefore the smoke does not hinder fire.
