Is a SM restricted in firing out of its hex if there is an enemy infantry squad present?

I did not find any restrictions in the TPBF or SM sections unless firing a SM is attacking other units.

Thanks,
Rich

It is not an attack, so no target selection limits A7.212 doesn't apply.

So, what is the difference from a sM and infantry dropping smoke either in hex or otherwise?
Other than the Infantry being locked in melee, nothing. If it's the Infantry's MPh, and if the Infantry isn't locked in melee and/or if the Infantry can get into the AFV's hex/Adjacent, and if the Infantry has the MF's left to place it, go for it. -- jim
