All,
When you are using DYO for a scenario, what do you use to make the "Company-sized" elements you wish to play with?

Chapter S has a good example.

Are there any others beside the CG reinforcement charts in all the HASLs?

Don't forget Michael Dorosh's Scenario Designer's Handbook-- the Nationalities section is my favorite part. It reminds me of the ASL articles that Steve Swann used to do. Speaking of which, he's another possible source as well. Does that help?

For the Germans I can use Nafziger's series of books which encompass the German order of battle for most of their Infantry, Armour, Artillery, and SS from 39 to 45ish. Obviously the records for what was in any unit after late 44 are blurry, just because a unit was allowed to have something doesnt mean it had it and often units had equipment they werent entitled to because it was 'picked up' along the way.

As Dave suggests, I have breakdowns of infantry companies for the following types of infantry battalions in the Handbook, listing number of squads and suggested SW/leader mix (though this is based on the formula in the ASLRB in any event):

(I also have a complete index of all the Steven Swann, Charles Markuss, Craig Posey, etc. nationality articles listed in the book so you can tell which nationalities and force types have been covered and which haven't, and more importantly, where to find them (which Journal, General or Annual) - but bear in mind the only articles dealing with specific company breakdowns tended to deal with what we today call "special forces".)

I'll second the recommendation of Mike's book. It's very well done and an excellent resource for the kind of information you are seeking.

I would like to address the topic succinctly.

12 squads, 4 leaders, a few SWs. Boom! There you have it. :yummy:

Huh. A hundred pages of my book condensed to something so small you could tattoo it on Houseman's ass.

You'll never make money that way, Glenn! :p

Why just 12 squads?

Russians would only use maybe 10....

Brits... about 12 is alright....

US. Well, you got to add the following:

1 Squad of malingers.

1 Squad ALWAYS on KP.

1 Squad constantly guarding something.

1 Squad on the 1SG's sh*t-list.

So 12 for the US just WOn't work.

But thanks Glenn for your input.

I got to order the book from Dorosh

12 will not work for the Commonwealth either. There would always be at least 1 sqd equivalent left out of battle.
I suppose it really comes down to how long has the company been in action and what are the circumstances.
