Spammers often have a monetary motive. They want other peoples money.
The spammers here might just have something against board games though.

What's the alleged connection between spam and serving the site over HTTPS?

It's 2023 and this site is still not using HTTPS. Every web browser at this point will block access and make the user click through a warning for sites served over HTTP. Free SSL certs have been available for years.

What needs to happen so the site can switch to HTTPS?

I expect one of the site admins will have to ask one of their grand-kids to do it. If they can get one of them off their mobile phones.

I doubt that the spammers have anything against board games, as they are bots. Of course it's about money - they are trying to sell their crappy gummies and CBDs. The sites they direct you to may or may not have malware as well.

None of which has anything at all to do with the warnings people are getting. I had to set my Norton to ignore this site, which I hate doing in general.
