Creating the 2nd Edition was a major chore for them as they had to recreate the rulebook from scratch. But now that they have the whole thing in digital format, a 3rd Edition would be much more straightforward.

My personal opinion is that ALL terrain rules should be incorporated into a single Chapter B with subsections Including the Arctic for the Finn module). Also the normal rules book should be inclusive of existing chapters A through J. Larger = YES! A little more expensive = YES.
BUT it would save the expense of having rules sections in so many modules, which should REDUCE the expense of those modules. At that point modules would include ONLY maps, counters and scenarios.

Again... just my very own personal opinion, but I believe that the rules are established well enough now that the basic rule book could be hardbound.

I'd love to see a Third Edition of the game, too, but we need to be realistic with our expectations. No MMP rant intended, but the facts are clear that this is a company which struggles to support the 2nd Ed game properly as it is.

I'd rather the focus be upon building the ASL player base and keeping core stuff in print than overhauling the game system.

Cost vs value...not just difficulty, but value. I don't know that I would rush out and grab an ASLRBv3 based on the modest amount of post v2 errata. ASLRBv2 covered a whole lot more errata than a v3 would as well as fixing some things...which doesn't leave nearly as much for a v3 to fix.

Now, what I would throw some money down on is a really good eASLRB....with hyperlinks and all. Add in the ability to instantly downloadable upgrades (errata/Q&A) and I would probably be willing to shell out serious cash.

Putting the eASLRB to a side for now, because we know that's a non-starter, I would jump at the chance to own a hard bound rules folder.

I've spiral bound mine, and the wear is starting to show - but I can't be bothered with the whole page protector thing for the rules, I like to read in bed, on the plane, etc. Getting out the page protected rule book on the train makes me look just a bit too much like Howard Hughes for my liking

Most people take far too much care of their Rule Books because they can't easily be replaced (certain chapters, at least) - a full (imitation) leather back-bound rule book at around $100 would be so cool. GW or some spin-off did it for some of their manuals and they looked amazing.

3rd edition meaning rewrite and simplification of the rulebook?
Inclusion of all errata?
inclusion of all out of print HASL rules sections?

not sure how I'd vote until I had a clear understanding of what you'd want or expect from a 3rd edition..

I'd like to see all the errata added into 2nd Edition rule pages available for free download from the MMP website, so we can print them off ourselves - rather than the hassle of "sticky" errata. My colour printer can do almost as good a job as MMP's publisher.

The whole point of having a binder is to accommodate changes like that - not make you buy a new binder every 5 years or so.

If there is too much errata to make such a scheme feasible, then there is something dearly wrong. I mean true errata - broken rules or missing sentences, not interpretations or re-interpretations. It's been 25 years, decide on the damn rules once and for all and then leave it alone.

If there really must be a change to the rulebook, do it to accommodate Programmed Instruction. Allow people to either buy the whole rulebook, or just Chapters A, B, H to begin with, with a suitable "bridge" module between the ASLSK and full ASL with scenarios having just infantry. Then an armour and ordnance module where you get Chapters C and D and the appropriate pages of chapter H. Then a separate module for Chapter E. But this time keep them in print. Or, as I said, also sell the whole shebang for people who want the entire rulebook and don't need the PI modules.

A third edition that included a new Chapter F and a new Chapter G. We still only have 1st editions of those.

I am not keen on rules changes. I would not like a 3rd edition to be amandate for wholesale revision of the rule, but a 3rd edition that cleaned up the rules, included the terrain in a single chapter and covered ALL of the rules would be nice.

A 3rd edition should only....ONLY come in electronic format. As tate pointed out there isnt a whole lot of errata which was the major reason for ASL2.

It would also be properly organized instead of the scattered cluster&*%$ it is now with terrain tossed in everywhere and it would include the rules for ALL modules.

Why call it a third edition then? Why not just issue fixed 2nd Edition pages and leave it at that? Why make people pay for a third binder?

What is the point of even having a binder if you're not going to issue replacement pages?

An unwarranted diversion of energy and time. The errata associated with Edition 2 are comparatively few. I said comparatively. The second edition was a comprehensive rewrite and that will never be necessary again.

When MMP has gotten to the point where they're sitting around with absolutely nothing to do, then perhaps they could clean up the errata and publish a 3rd edition. I hope they never reach that point.

I like the way MMP has been updating info (free download RB pages) in the RB as well as updating the scenarios and adding them to Core modules.

They have been doing very good work in my opinion.

But a 3rd Edition to the current tome?

Maybe after all the Core modules have been released.
