The first major tournament I attended (ASLOK 10 years ago)I playes a scenario in which my opponent wanted to use the same dice and cup. Not knowing any better, I agreed. During the game, he slammed the glass cup down so hard he cracked it and he rarely rolled less than a nine while I rarely rolled over a seven. Needless to say, I won. After that experience, I prefer to use my own dice. I still share the dicecup or tower, but not the dice.

I have have many dice (always picking up a few more each year at Origins) and have some prefered sets for ASL. I always use one white/clear and some other color.

I used to use a glass, but after spending a heafty sum of $$$ one year on a dice tower,it is what I use. My wife's eyes popped :surprise: when she found out how much I spent and made sure to use the tower whenever we played a game needing dice. She is now hooked on the dice tower.

Brian, I've played against those dice of yours and they didn't help you. Next time we cross cardboard, I'll have to pull out the "Duck Dice" and teach you a lesson. :D

We need to think of some good excuses to avoid guys like this. I like the "I just used the john and didn't wash my hands" trick. Any more?
Just stick the dice in your nose or ears once or twice or breathe heavily on them after you have had a few beers or made a run at the fast food joint. Guaranteed no one will want to touch them. Truth is if anyone is insistent on using my dice they can go right ahead. They will learn the pain of rolling 11's and 12's as often as I do.

How many people here use a dice tower or something similar?
I have both a dice tray and a dice tower. I paid pretty good sums for both, but carry them both so my opponent can have a choice of some sort.

I prefer the dice tower because it is high quality, I spent a lot of money on it, it is quieter than a glass and it doesn't allow an opponent the opportunity to "drop" dice in a tray rather than throw them. I have also seen people get so excited in the heat of battle that they basically bounce the dice right out of the tray. :crosseye:

3) Using a sealed glass (like a jar with a lid) and not giving the dice a proper shake so they tumble at least few times.
Very good list of observations. I especially dislike when people do the number 3.

i use two laser cut NASA tooled all weather night sight urban warfare dice. stored in their own middle east hand tooled voodoo quick draw dice quiver, ready for instant action.

i like other players to use em as it increases their sense of inferiority when they go back to using their christmas cracker dice.

I have been using a nice (and cheap too!) tray I got from chessex at gen con 2000. With a die cup I got from a JK Gill store liquidation sale. That combination NEVER caused dice to skip accross the board and were light and easy to transport. I do have a dice tower I got off ebay a year ago, but while it looks nice its a little bulky and too many times dice have jumped the tray wall. So I never really used it much after the first couple of months.

However, I was lucky enough to win a very nice looking, all clear, easily dismantled, dice tower at WWF X this last weekend. I've been testing it out and it works great, so I think im going to swith to tower from tray now.

My dice preference is to use mostly a black/white dice combo. Since I'm colored blind it works best for me. If sometimes I need to use other dice for some odd reason they might be any color, but have a feature I can easily focus on. During WWF X I used a speckeled die and a colored one. I guess it was a little bit disconcerting for some players to see me use it with the speckeled die being my "colored" die for DR's. Since most people first pick up on the dice's colors, while I focus on their features or patterns. But I try to always announce at the very beginning of play how I intened to use them.

Dice tower (Pleva Stealth 4400) only.
Always have a white in the mix, I am also color blind - both of my board twelves have the hidden hill in T1/S1- first time I found out about the hill it ruined a rear shot from a Shemran on a StuG. Yeah - it is a moment burned into memory

Share or not - I have enough dice for either

I tend to pull dice for random events in the amount needed and try to do a top to bottom of the stack in light to dark die colors, but it is not fixed from one roll to the next depending on what dice the opponent has pulled for their use etc

Of course I use a dice tower, like any real man would.

Re using dice, last winter I played a very well known "old hand" who has designed some classic scenarios. He came to the event with nothing, so I pulled out some dice for him to use. After we began playing, he needed to roll some dice, so he motioned for me to give him the dice in my hand. I went through this several times before I finally said, "Hey, I put some dice out for you to use." He said he wanted to use the ones I was using.

I said, "fine, whatever." So I gave him those dice and pulled out some more for me to use. When it came time for him to roll dice, he once more motioned for me to give him the dice in my hand.

I said, "What are you doing? You've got plenty of dice. I just gave you the ones I had used."

He said, "No, I always want to roll the dice that you just rolled."

I said that was ridiculous, that I liked to fiddle with dice in my hand while waiting for him to take his turn, and didn't want to be constantly having to give him the dice I had just rolled. I said he could use any of my dice and even pick out dice for me to use and I would use those.

He said no to that, and said the only way he would play was if he could keep using the particular dice that I had just rolled in any given circumstances. I said that was ridiculous, so he refused to play with me, and we called the game after one turn.

Luckily, I have never met anybody else like that.

Let's see, the old guy had a dice thing where he wanted to use the same dice. :hmmm:

You had a dice thing, where you wanted to fiddle with just your dice. :violin:

Neither would give in.

So no game.

You say, "Luckily, I have never met anybody else like that."

Wonder what he would say.

Sounds about even up on the "ridiculous" meter. :dead:

Dice whining

It matters not to me whether or my opponent uses my dice. I think it actually help to stiffle his whining of his bad dice if we use the same dice.

I don't like to play (at least not in tournaments) against players who use their own personal dice. My reasoning is that even honourable players will tend to choose personal dice that give kind rolls - if not, they would not be comfortable with those dice. Not horribly unbalanced dice, but maybe dice that roll 6.9 instead 7.0 on average.

I have no problem with me being unlucky or my opponnet lucky during the game, but I do hate the nagging feeling that its not pure luck, but partly due to slightly loaded dice.

So what I prefer is that we both choose from my opponent's or mine dice - preferably mine, as I've bought 8 precision dice (7$ each) that's supposed to give correct results.

Why so surprised Priest? :surprise:

My last trip to Chicago in 2002 for the ASL Open I picked up a set of 6 'precision' dice (see post above) for $US35. They are just a touch over the regular ASL size but have nice sharp edges and make sweet music as they rattle through my tower. :smoke:

I still have my original ASL dice from the 'early years' and use them on occasion. Oh,...by the way, those same precision dice can be just as hot or cold as any other. In the current KGP I CG my 'precious' dice (that none shall touch but me) rolled at least a dozen box cars that left, amongst other thing, 5 of my tanks without cannon and machine guns. Then again, last weekend, in a game of 'Egypts Last Hope' I literally slaughtered poor Birdgunners Grant tanks, including 3 consecutive APCR hits (with rate) from a Pz IIIH.

I have only once had a person ask me to change dice (they were very nasty) and I willingly obliged. My very next role with two randomly chosen ASL cubes from the bag was double ones. I thought the poor lad was going to have a stroke. He looked liked this ->
