The preparations for the 2018 Edition of the Scandinavian Open are well under way. It will be our 21st Tournament in Copenhagen. The tournament will again be held at Danhostel Amager, the location that has served us so well in recent years.

We will continue the extended format that we introduced in 2016 and continued in 2017. The Tournament will once again be a 5 day event with Friendly gaming Wednesday and Thursday and the classic 5 round ASO main tournament starting friday running through sunday. There will also be mini tournaments saturday and sunday.

The friendly gaming Wednesday and Thursday will take place at the same venue as the main tournament, so you can see it as a chance to warm up for the main tournament or just a chance to play some new opponents in a friendly atmosphere.

We have been able to negotiate a very good price with our Tournament Venue:
(Exact prices to be confirmed, but expected to be along these lines again)

Wednesday through Sunday (Full monty) - 275 Euros
Thursday through Sunday - 250 Euros
Friday through Sunday (Main ASO Tournament) - 190 Euros

These price covers the Tournament fee, linnen and towels (10 Euros) as well as breakfast, lunch and dinners for the duration of your stay. In addition you will have to pay for a room to sleep in. The cost of that depends on how many you are willing to share a room with (rooms include shower and bathroom).

1-person room, Approximately 70 Euros per night per person
2-person room, Approximately 38 Euros per night per person
3-person room, Approximately 30 Euros per night per person
4-person room, Approximately 27 Euros per night per person

Contact Michael Hastrup-Leth (hastrupleth@gmail.com) or Bo Siemsen (bo.siemsen@gmail.com) for registration and a specific price for your stay.

Updates with regards to registered players, scenarios, ABS etc. will be made available on our website leading up to the tournament. Updates will be announced in the Gamesquad forums in this thread.

- Scenarios are expected to be released around December 1st

Thanks Bo (and Michael) :)
So no "tournament special rules" this time for example for OBA/Radio?

about this entry in SP 261 Gunning for Gas : D 2 Russian vehicles are elite for Ammo Depletion purposes
I believe that Russian vehicles are already elite for C8.2 as it seems they are "Guards". What I'm missing?

I think we may have overlooked the "Guards" note on the Gunning for Gas scenario. Embarrassing :). We will make a change to that. Thanks !

*UPDATE*
We have made a change to the PBS for that scenario.

Our standard Tournament SSR's will remain in place. You can find those on the tournament rules page. But we have no additional Scenario Special Rules.

Both the short and the long first round are nearing completion, and despite already being down 0-1 it’s hard not to be delighted to be here again. Great turnout again with well over 40 braving the cold- EC are ground snow.

Scandinavian Open 2018 has come to an end.

After 5 days of gaming we found a new first time ASO winner. Kenneth Knudsen was crowned Tournament winner after being the last man standing on maximum points. Due to a combination of judged draws and the other results Kenneth was the last remaining with maximum wins already after 4 rounds.

Kenneth made the ASO 2017 Final table where he gave the eventual winner Melvin Falk a run for his money in a close final, but this year he would not be denied. Kenneth is the third Danish player to win the Scandinavian Open following in the footsteps of Jes Touvdal (2002) and Bjarne Marell (2004). 14 years passed since the most recent Danish win. Hopefully it won’t be another 14 years until we see a Danish winner again.

CONGRATULATIONS KENNETH

ASO2018 Winner.jpg

With Siberian winter-like Environmental Conditions in Europe the tournament despite a couple of late cancellations featured 40 players in the main tournament and another 5 players, mostly local Danish but also a prolific brit Mr. Toby Pilling. The tournament directors take our numbers to almost 50 total. The tournament had multiple first time players who added both skill and enthusiasm to the event - including the youngest ever ASO participant Svante Sandblom. We are always happy to see new faces at our tournament.

As a special gift for all participants we had produced a new mousepad/dice-pad which was given as a gift to all who participated in the ASL Event.
Mousepad2-25.jpg

Thanks to all those who attended and help make ASO 2018 yet another successful event. We are already looking forward to 2019 where we will once again offer an extended tournament. 2 days of friendly gaming followed by 3 days of the classic ASO tournament. The dates for the 2019 tournament will be February 27th through March 3rd 2019.

Winner – Kenneth Knudsen
2nd place – G. Tournemire
4-1 players – Melvin Falk, Arnaud Sanchis, Paul Chamberlain, Eero Vihersari and Enrico Catanzaro

The final standings will be posted here in the forum and on our website within the next few days. Results will be submitted to the AREA rankings and results of the scenarios will be added to the ROAR.

As usual, the XXth edition of the Scandinavian Open delivered on its promises with as usual abundant food and drinks and good scenarios all through the weekend, although the outside temperature was very much reminiscent of the first, pre-global warming, decade of ASO. As usual a very multinational participation (DK, SE, FI, NO, IT, FR, DE, US, ISR, UK) for the best European tournament. I finished the only undefeated player of the field although due to slow play from my opponent we could not finish one game and it was adjudicated a draw, costing me the tournament.

It started with Tigers and Flames and i was willing to try the Soviet side. Unfortunately the German setup is very unforgiving and i was able to benefit from it to deliver a powerful blow to the Germans and rush into the village to slaughther the garrison, albeit at a high cost in fighting machines. The reinforcements could not make their presence felt as they were 'welcomed' by advanced elements of Soviet infantry. It went on with Mormal Forest where my German attacks shattered the French defence line in the Board 42 woods. Possibly the setup was a bit too economical there, although it meant that my armored thrust towards board 63 failed all along the line. Although the French managed to hastily reform a last defence line in front of the VC building backed up with Renault tanks, earlier losses meant that it was possible to break through once again. Then we try Crickets in Spring where the very slow/cautious German advance somehow paid off as it was hard to weaken the customarily-strong SS OB. I was ahead by a point when the game was adjudicated a draw. Then the secret round resulted in the playing of Cream of the Crop, a good proven scenario. The German attack started off well with the KV immobilised in street fighting but it was in a good spot and provided a natural anchor to the defence. I was able to repeal multiple infiltrations into the village and my T-60s proved to be a butch of nasty little troublemakers. Finally, i defeated the tournament winner in Red Tears shed on Grey. It started poorly with the 37L rolling boxcars on its first shot. Reeling back from the initial onslaught, the 426s put up a stiff resistence and one of them went berserk in the fortified location. How convenient. A DC was called forward to breach the hexside and my berserk was eventually captured (he he). On the last Romanian player turn, my opponent held the 10 building hexes he needed for a win, but i recaptured one at knife point during my last turn. It can't end up better than that.

Glad you had a good time.
On behalf of Kirby Vincent I would like to point out that we also had a Canadian at the tournament :)
Also, Hans Bugge actually won all his 5 games at ASO 2018. He won his first two games in the main tournament, then opted for the weekend mini tournament and won all 3 games there.

To be fair, if we had to pick a winner of that scenario we would have chosen your opponent Ketil as the winner. We felt the Germans had the better position and there were points up for grabs for him, but you had the more coherent plan for the end game. So, it was just too close to call. We already discussed it a bit at the tournament, so let's not use this thread for that discussion. But feel free to email me and/or Michael if you want to.
