OK. I may have missed this explanation about CH producing Russian counters in Red.

Is there a reason for them being made red?

I do not like the Russians in Red. I prefer the Brownish (in many different shades) style counters.

Why are there RED counters?
Similar to the question: “Why are the commies called ‘Reds’?”
‘Red’ refers to blood shed by the working class in its struggle against capitalism and the identification of Communism with ‘Socialist Red’
(red is the primary color of the Soviet Union flag and the red Star a Communist emblem).
This evolved into the Cold War phrases:
‘The Red Menace’ and ‘Red China’ thus the … RED counters
(note/disclaimer: opinion only, not an official answer, as always agreement amongst opposing players takes precedence).

Excellent close up photos of the counters!
Buyers take note of the differences in the attachment points for the counters in the MMP products and the CH counters. The process of removing the CH counters from the sheets will require much more effort than those from MMP. I experienced this first hand when I purchased one of the US Army nationality sets from CH a few years ago. A very sharp, large chisel edge X-Acto blade is recommended.

It's the Red Army. They should be Red! Just like the US forces should be olive drab not bright green in my opinion!

Apparently all that time I spent thinking about tactics was misdirected. I should have been thinking about nationality colors. Oh well that's what happens when you live in the boondocks. My were black, IIRC.

Is there a reason why you are so arrogant? No wonder people don't like this place. It's people like you.

Your best bet is to ignore comments from some of the denizens here, Good chunk of them do not play ASL anymore but we are graced with their presence and wisdom............

Anywhoo, not a fan of the red russians, too each their own.

The logic of this is, erm, striking.

Since the color of the uniforms of the US forces was olive drab, so should be the counters. Just like the uniforms of the Red Army are...

Now wait, the Redcoats are (at least used to be, I concede) the British, so as for the colors of the British counters, this would mean, hmmm...

Altogether, this leads us into a swamp of colors, since most uniforms were shades of green, brown, khaki or grey. It would add some fog of war, may even be the cause of some friendly fire, mebbe. It might also swamp the argument, so I let it decompose. ;)

If you compare his tone to yours, I am honestly not so sure which one is taken less kindly.

That said, of course, it is just fine if your personal preference is red counters for the Russians and olive drab for the US.

vM apparently Fort was right about sarcasm.

Imighthaveit can prefer his counters any color he wishes. I believe that I have made it plainly clear on multiple occasions that it doesn't matter to me how a player enjoys the game as long as they are enjoying it.
What I find slightly disturbing is Scott's comments about people who do not play anymore posting about ASL. I didn't realize that was a criteria. I'll have to check the site rules. I must have overlooked that one.

For the sarcasmly challenged that was more sarcasm.

Would you like the reasons that I am so arrogant listed alphabetically, chronologically or in order of importance?

The point of my OP is that many modern players approach and enjoy the system more as collectors and enthusiasts than as actual gamers. That is fine by me. Wwbitd we were happy to have any new addition to the game that allowed us to play more. We played on the original Rogue boards and anyone who has any sense of aesthetics knows that they were atrocious. Whatever.

Imighthaveit I offer my apologies if you were offended by my original post.

Scott you know who I am and should know my attitude towards the game and those who play it or even have played it.

Btw the " mine were black " was a reference to the boots we wore in the Navy which were referred to as boondockers.

I do have a problem with the CH Vietnam counter colors. The Hue Module came out and is nice, then Annual #6 comes out with more Vietnam Scenarios and Counters and the Counters are different colors then the one from Hue. What's up with that?
