I have two full sets of armor leaders in my Russian counter mix. Did Russian armor leaders come in any Avalon Hill/MMP module other than Beyond Valor? I'm trying to figure out where my second set of Russian armor leaders came from.

Thanks,

Jim

I'm certain that ALs only came with BV, no other ASL module. It's been so long, but there might have been some with the SL modules CoI/CoD/GI, though probably not in the exact same numbers.

How do you know that they are two full sets, if you don't know where they come from?
Are you perhaps saying that there are more than one of each type of leaders - which is the case within a single set.

For the major nationalities you get
1 x 10-2
2 x 9-2
3 x 9-1
4 x 8-1
for a total of 10, a triangular number.
Some of the other nationalities only get 8 if my memory is correct.

Love ya Paul but what bearing does 10 being a triangular number have on the question?

Absolutely nothing, just the maths geek in me and the humour I was in when posting. :) Sort of ASL related in that the 2-7 DR cumulative totals have 1, 3, 6, 10, 15 and 21 (of 36) which are also triangular.

One distinguishing feature of an official SL era armour leader and an ASL armour leader is that the SL ones have names, the ASL ones don't.

FB had 47 Soviet infantry leaders (1 x 10-3, 2 x 10-2, 4 x 9-2, 6 x 9-1, 10 x 8-1, 10 x 8-0, 10 x 7-0, 4 x 6-1) and 3 heroes but no AL.

Maybe they came from the "KAMA" tank school founded by the Germans (cough) in the 1920's and used to train both German and Soviet tankers who later became armor leaders during WWII. Perhaps the extra Soviets are Germans in disguise. Activities with the Germans ended in 1933.

In the latest Schwerpunkt issue, there is a 9-2 armor leader in one of the scenarios.
