I dug out my original copy of SP I and installed it on my computer, not having played it since 2000. Only problem is that it doesn't appear to run since I have upgraded to Win 2000 on my home PC. I'm not familiar with how to deal with this. Is there something I can do? Many thanks.

I've never tried running the original SP 1 on my XP but I run many Dos games using VDM.

Check at http://www.longhighway.com/sandbox/xp.html and http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/ where you'll find instructions for running DOS games in XP and 2000.

Best!

Thanks, Andy. I've been looking at SPWaW as well, and having problems (another thread). But either way it looks like we're running into similar difficulties in Win2000. I have my bro-in-law working on this and will send this info his way!

All the best,

Matt

The problems you have with SPWaW are probably not connected with the 'problem' with SP1. You probably (most likely?) need VDM to run a MS-DOS based game in Win2000. Expect funky stuff like mouse movement and sound issues.

SPWaW is DirectX compatible, so it's another problem.

Keep in mind VDM is only a sound related issue.

I have run SPMBT and SPWW2 and SP3 all in XP with a standard no weird fuss install on an XP machine. I had to go into the games ini file and manually adjust the mouse settings (SP Cammo explains how to do this on their Windows fix page), but it fixed the problem of a mouse being a pain in SPMBT and SPWW2. The fix doesn't appear relevant to SP3 though.

I was able to set up sound through the games own actual sound set up fine though.

Thus far, my only beef is on game exit, my screen goes to hell scrambled. No major burden though, I hit reset button, wait till reboot and go back to whatever it was I was planning to do after quitting the game.

SP1 might be no different, as it is basically the same environment as SPMBT or SP3.

I got SPMBT to run with VDM (ofcourse) and then some little nice SB-emulating program since my sound card is definitely not SB compatible. :p Still isn't perfect, sound blocks out when there's too many playing at once. (MG fired after main gun blocks all sounds for ~20 sec)

Works fine, but it took some fidgeting to get the mouse to work properly.
