A T34 has -2 ACQ on a unit, then decides to go CE in Advance Phase.
Is the ACQ lost? I think not, but curious.

I agree! The list of ACQ-cancelling activities do not include CE/BU movement:

From C6.5:

  • The target remains acquired until the Gun/manning-infantry that placed it leaves its present Location [EXC: Gyrostabilizer; 6.55] —
  • or the Gun changes its CA without firing on its already-acquired target during the current phase —
  • or the Gun (or its CMG unless in a separate turret) attacks (including in CC, or Interdicts) a different target —
  • or the Gun malfunctions or fires SMOKE (6.56), canister or IFE —
  • or its crew/manning-infantry are eliminated or not in Good Order, or they no longer possess it, or they fire Inherent FP/SW or use Interdiction, or they (un)limber/dm it —
  • or the target is no longer in their LOS after entering a new Location/vertex-(see 6.15) (although in this case the last in-LOS Location occupied by the target will remain acquired; 6.51).
None of these points address this matter even remotely.

Also, D5.33:

Such placement/removal of a vehicle CE counter....does not constitute movement for purposes of moving target/firer penalties.

If the firer wasn't RST, this (or it's reverse) would be a valid and worthwhile move depending on the situation. Since the commander would still remember where the last round landed relative to the target there is no reason to lose Acq.

From a gamewise p.o.v., the reasons for a RST tank to go CE during the APh are quite rare.
The most frequent reason would be to use the 0.5 MP during the next MPh (and to be able to BU during the movement). With the risk of being attacked on the IFT or by a Sniper.
I hardly ever have 1MT or RST tanks become CE...

Smoke grenades! (if you want to be able to BU during your next MPh, that is)
1 chance in 6.
It may be worth the try, but in a rather despairing situation - as the tank won't be able to fire its Gun during the upcoming opponent's turn...

Thanks for the correction.
I should look up the rules when stating things.

Being CE during MPh and BU during AdVPh in the same turn is an option to being able to fire on next DPh
