If a squad with 4 MF moves only 1 hex around the black bar from one rowhouse to the next rowhouse in the same building is it subject to FFNAM?

B23.71
”Such units moving/routing on the ground level expend three MF (one to “bypass” in the hex it is leaving where it would be attacked by any OBA/Residual-FP and two to enter the building), and can be Interdicted or Defensive First Fired upon with FFMO/FFNAM DRM by any unit capable of doing so that can trace a LOS to the vertex of the hexside crossed by the moving/routing unit on that side of the building.

Isn't the FFNAM only applicable if it moves more than 1 hex?

Assault movement is a choice. A unit can move one hex / location and not to assault move even if it has the MF to do so. You have to declare assault movement prior to moving.

If it is an Inexperienced unit and moving without a Leader it would expend all of its non-double time movement allotment and would be subject to FFNAM (A4.61...and that moves ≤ one Location during its MPh without using all of its MF (including any leader/road bonus, but not Double Time),... ) as it could not declare Assault Movement.

Or if a wounded leader, or an MMC carrying PP that leaves it with 3 MF. There are many cases when 3 MF cannot be spent as AM.

Moreover, having only one or two MF left, after accounting for Portage costs (because Rowhouse Bypass costs 3 MF), would disqualify a unit for Assault Movement too. IOW, Assault Movement is not necessarily a given when using Rowhouse Bypass.

Nor is a unit immune to FFNAM simply because it only moved one hex.

A unit making a Minimum Move would be subject to FFNAM, as would a unit that declared Assault Movement, but subsequently broke due to an enemy attack.

I see that Robin beat me to part of this. But no matter.

Note, too, that a unit could have more MF than needed when it moves from a Rowhouse Location to another one, and still not declare AM, so as to spend MF after that move...
