After too many requests from players, I've now added a way for you to import your playings from ROAR into the archive. The instructions can be found at the bottom of your My Page, but essentially requires you to copy and paste your playing records from your account page in ROAR into a spreadsheet, then from there into the input box.

Games aren't removed from your account but duplicates won't be added (duplicates check player name, scenario and dates).

Please do carry on using ROAR if you choose to do so, but this is being offered to players who'd like to consolidate their records on the archive.

The form takes a tab separated file and assumes the first line is a header row. This data is available on your ROAR account page. Copy the data into a spreadsheet and from there, into the field below.

Format:
---- Header row [ignored] ----
Row id [tab] MM/DD/YY [tab] scenario [tab] ID (ignored) [tab] side [tab] result [tab] against [tab] ...

Note: Logged games are added to your account but duplicate games will be ignored based on scenario/opponent/date so you can import the file multiple times (with edits where required) without fear of duplicating playings or overwriting your existing record). Games are logged with a rating of 'Average'.

That's a nice function!

I did it by hand years ago. It is a chore that others will be happy to have the opportunity to avoid by using the new function.

This is great news. I have 99% of my games in ROAR since December on 1998 (some international tournemtnt games between 2000 to 2008 I have no record of) . Now I can import all that data and start using Scenario archive for real!

Even without your stuff imported, you should have been using the ASL Scenario Archive for real for a long time. It is simply one of the best ASL resources out there.

Yeah - I'd imagine so. I don't think there's a report that will export it all (and it's not mine to export) but technically it obviously can be done. It's a little tricky in the details. Some scenario titles don't match, scenario versioning is next to impossible and some players have multiple accounts. Then there's the issue of not double counting scenarios that are already in the archive or those logged by both players in ROAR (although ROAR may have a way to handle that).

I think for now allowing players to import their data will definitely get us some of the way there.

Herr Oberst, I am honored and humbled to be recognized for finally crawling toward good ASL cizenship status after being a disappointing minor ally for you for so many years.

[The Oberst grants you the rarity of one of his most winning smiles.]

As a Prussian officer, I advocate advancing forward upright towards good ASL citizenship status. Swallowing a cane can help in doing so. But crawling towards it might improve your chances to actually reach the objective alive.

My other guinea-pig for this put it into a spreadsheet that automatically converted it (format column options I'd think in excel), but I've added an untested function to allow you to select your date format.

You'll still need the data to be tab delimited with the rows as described otherwise, so double check the copy/paste data is correct, but you can try multiple times without much bad stuff happening. Let me know how you get on!

Thanks for the help!

That worked mostly - I had 1096 games in ROAR and it mamaged to import 959 of them.

Is this to be expected? Any way this makes it reasonble as I you can mange 100+ manual entries instead of 1000+

edit: hmmmm I cannot see these at my page- something is not right..,.

Quick Google search. Answer is there. -- jim
Thanks Jim, yes I tought I knew how to handle this already but I could not get it to work.

I suspect it has to do something with me having Finnish number/date etc. settings in Windows, that sometimes causes trouble with data manipulation.

Can you send me your data in a text file and I'll see what's going on. If you can preserve the copy/paste text (so ideally don't put it into word, excel - just the plain text in an attachment would be great) - cheers.

That's a whole damn lot of games you have chalked up! Quite impressive.

von Marwitz
it is missing about 150 games played between 1990-dec1998. Also I plyed about 60 playtest games during Hakkaa Päälle! development. so the total scenarios I've played is more than 1300.

However I still suck in ASL.
