Rules page space is premium territory, examples take up space. I personally love more examples and explanations. Not everyone agrees. Jim Bishop and I talked, over many ASLoK driving hours, about how to write a truly comprehensive examples of play guidebook with hyperlinked rules references embedded in the examples. If done right, I believe it would be a boon to the hobby.
That would probably be a recipe for " Why the hell would anyone do THAT?"

: Forces are clearing out NE corner of map, all the while under heavy Sniper fire (Russian SAN is 6!):

Left – Cut off units lead by 9-2 have cleared the NE corner, securing the buildings and rubble. Units now relocating back into the middle to assist with capturing the Slag Heap;

Centre – Units have secured Burg Castle and with assistance of the Russian Smoke bombardment have started their assault on the Slag Heap – greatly assisted by a 150mm Rocket Bombardment on it; Firebase in Z8 continues to engage targets of opportunities along the northern side of Hall 4; and

10265 10266

CENTRE SECTOR: Forces are finishing clearing out Halls 1 & 2, while providing suppressing fire on the small building between Halls 1 & 2 and Hall 4; meanwhile preparations are being for an assault on Hall 3 &4, while supporting fire is being lent to Left Flank forces:

Left – Sturmtroops have cleared out Hall 1 and the two buildings between Halls 1 &2; and are in the process of clearing Hall 2; all that is left is a small enclave of broken units under a commissar in corner of hall. Firebase in O18 continues to engage targets of opportunities along the northern side of Hall 4;

Centre – Reserves forces have finished their move forward to join the forces are starting their advance into the west of Hall 3 and 4; Firebase in H20 continues to engage targets of opportunities along the northern side of Hall 3, 4, 5, & the Electric Works; and

Right – forces in this area have been static; across from them in Hall 5, Russians have deployed in a line along the west side of the Hall. Units have provided fire support for a Left Flank forces probe into Q34 building.

10267

RIGHT FLANK: Forces are continuing move towards the Volga River in an attempt to outflank the Russian defensive line. All along the front, German probes into the factories have had mixed results. Sniper fire is extremely heavy in this sector (Russian SAN is 6!):

Left – a probe into the Q34 Building was repulsed but follow up forces are moving forward, a Russian squad with LMG is in upper NE corner of the building with suspected unit in the cellar. German 81mm mortar support is being provided from the roof of Hall 8 with MMG gun fire from the ground level of the hall;

Centre – an assault Hall 9 has managed to gain a foothold in the hall with broken Russian units huddled in the NE corner of the building; Russians have brought down harassing 82mm mortar fire, pinning down several units in the buildings; and

Right – Units have moved eastward along the gully to Railroad Bridge, from there they have advanced northwards towards the tank farm, heavily defended by the Russians. Initial repulsed, German units have continued to advance, gaining a toehold in SW corner of the farm.

On the RO map is the tunnel marked that runs from the finger gulley to the Hall 4. In the documentary the tunnel was the way the re-inforcements travelled from the Volga(45TH Division)?

it wasn't originally known by the Germans until much later in the battle, so Russian reinforcement highway.

Even so in the game, the German know about it - it's like an airborne drop, its success is in its surprise.

X-TAG, Session 13, Turn 5 played (CG Date Ended)

German Situation

LEFT FLANK
: With the NE corners secured, attention is directed to capturing the Slag Heap and with it, the outflanking of the factories:
  • Left –Units have all but a lone Conscript Squad wallowing in a gully, have relocated back into the middle to assist with capturing the Slag Heap;
  • Centre – Units continuing their assault on the Slag Heap under Russian light artillery fire; the Firebase located in the Z8 building continues supporting the attack specifically a Russian 9-1 & 4-4-7 in (BB17) and a nearby 76mm INF gun in (CC19); and
  • Right – In Hand-to Hand Fighting, Hall 2 was won, but the cost of 2 squads. Units continue to assisting Centre Sector. After a few AP shot from Russian 45mm A-T Gun in Z21 ricocheted off the glacis plate of the StuG IIIB, the gun crew was broken by machine-gun and rifle fire from numerous location.
10438 10439

CENTRE SECTOR: Forces have cleared Hall 2 (at the cost of 2 squads), while other units continue to push eastward, clearing out the west end of Hall 4; the firebases in O18 and H20 continue to provide suppressing fire on north side of Hall 4; on the right flank, foray into Hall 5 has been launched in support of Left Flank’s attack in Q34 building. A setback was suffered with the loss of the Sturmtroop Platoon to a Set DC in cellar of U18:
  • Left – the broken commissar survived numerous artillery and machine-gun attacks, to escape back into Hall 4 factory. The Sturmtroop Platoon (9-1, 3x 5-4-8 w/LMG) poured fire on the Russians hold up in the (U20) building, finally managing to drive them out of the from building, while the Sturmtroops were preparing for the assault in the (U18) building, there was a sudden earth shattering explosion; when the dust settled were two piles of rubble and twisted and broken remains of Sturmtroop Platoon in rubble piles. The Firebase in top floor of the (O18) building continued to engage targets of opportunities along the northern side of Hall 4 and the Slag Heap;
  • Centre – the strong push into the west end of Hall 4 continues with Pioneers supported by Rifle Platoons clearing out western third of the factory hall and gain a toehold in Hall 3; the Firebase in H20 continues to engage targets of opportunities along the northern side of Hall 4, 5, the Electric Works, and around the Slag Heap; and
  • Right – Units continue to provide fire support for a Left Flank forces probe into Q34 driving out or breaking the Russian platoon hold up in the building; meanwhile units have gained a foothold in the southern part of Factory Hall 5; but were forced to hold off a Berserk Charge from a Russian squad – cutting down half of them as they entered into (N29) Factory.
1044010441

RIGHT FLANK: German Forces have started moving northwards in effort to link up with the Left Flank at the Slag Heap. Meanwhile along the front in this sector, German probes were repulsed from the factories and are providing suppressing fire. Sniper fire was extremely heavy in this sector (Russian SAN is 6 now 5!) especially along the southside of the Bunny Gully:
  • Left – the units that were repulsed from the probe into the Q34 Building had regrouped and provided fire support on the Russian in the building. Meanwhile the 81mm mortar on the roof continues its bombardment of the Factory Hall 9;
  • Centre – the Russians have re-established themselves back in Factory Hall 9; requiring German units in Factory Hall 9a to provide suppressing fire on them; meanwhile the Russians gained battery access with their Battalion mortars and have begun pounding the Germans on the east side of Hall 9a; and
  • Right – the Battle of the Oil Reserve tanks continues with the Germans assault managing to push the Russian back and capturing half the tanks. The German units have for the most part managed to advance out of Bunny Gully, but Russian Sniper fire continues to harass support weapon crews on the south side of Bunny Gully.
1044310442

10444

German losses are still being counted, but initial they had been light. However, stiff Hand-to-Hand fighting and the demolition of the U18 building have taken its toll – exact numbers to follow.

Russians losses had continued to mount with the fighting for Halls 1 & 2, the Slag Heap, and the Oil Reserve Tanks costing them with their losses.
