The Russians just crumble in the first scenario of this CG. They must try and reconcile in the second scenario and then their forces start building up.

I think starting to close to the hex row c means that the German player can bypass and surround each company. The armor can move around each group.
I am going to deploy my russians closer to the factories and put the 6-2-8 company into hall 3 and 4. Keeping the lines closer together means better support for each other

Red Factories, X-Tag, Session #2, Turn Played 3;
Germans continue to strongly advance along the Left Flanks, while crossing the gully and expand on the Right Flank. In the Centre Sector, the Germans have pushed up to the Railroad track, bypassing a Russian strongpoint in the left-centre sector.

I hope there is substantial troop hidden in halls 3 and 4. If the German infantry get into Hall 4 the Russians are done. The Russians on the left flank are close to being encircled. The raised rail line will be a good obstacle though

It doesn't look like there are any more Russians in that area. The German will just waltz in.

Red Factories, X-Tag, Session #3, Turn Played 4;

The Germans' advance continues to strongly advance along the Left Flank, and now on the Right Flank, having captured the right map edge is starting to push eastward toward the river. In the Centre Sector, the Germans had made a foray towards the factories only to be pushed back by heavy cannon fire. The Russians are starting to withdraw from the strongpoint in the left-centre sector.

Red Factories, X-Tag, Session #4, Turn Played 5*
* Note previous picture have turn wrong

The Germans continue to advance along the Left Flank, stumbling a bit over the Russians left in their way, while the Right Flank continues the advance, flushing out any Russians left in buildings on the far left flank. In the Centre Sector, the German Engineers are clearing Russian out of the Shooting Gallery, the School, and the Kindergraten while preparing to assault into the Ladder House. The Russian have reinforced Halls No.3 & No. 4 in the Left-Centre Sector and Halls No. 5 and No. 8a in the Right-Centre Sector. Overhead 4x Stukas circle, attempting to spot Russians moving about the factories, diving down when they managed to spot someone (the threat of them has kept the Russian from running out into the streets).

Russians hold back the surging German Advance; Is it enough? Can the hold out?

Red Factories, X-Tag, Session #5, Turns Played 6 & 6.5;

The Germans' Left Flank continues to strongly advance towads the river with a lead platoon crossing Uglovaya Street (hexrow T), while following platoons cleared up the Russian pocket in the Rune House (J10-J11) behind them. A mistaken Stuka attack on Russians in U1 nearly proved disasterous for a German leader and broken HS in R1 - but the Luftwaffe's poor aim dropped the bomb harmless nearby.

The Germans' Right Flank continues to advance through the myriad of wooden houses towards the end of the Banya Gully (P45) with its lead platoon. Meanwhile the remainder of the battalion presses against mounting Russian resistance in Hall 8 and Hall 5a. Sniper and booby trap activity has been heavy in this sector, claiming a the life a leader & a HS; and broke a Squad and pinned a HS.

The Germans' Centre Sector sturm and pionier platoons are clearing out solid but dwindling Russians from the Ladder House (L16) while managing to gain a toehold into Hall 4. A quick shift of forces moved a sturm platoon right to assist with the assault on Hall 5a. Some searching fire finally managed to knock out the Russian artillery spotter in the 2nd Level of (N15) the Administraion House. The German close-combat assaults proved more successful this turn, with two attacks by a pair of Sturm HS managing to ambush and take out a pair of Russian Conscript HS in the Ladder House - one German HS even managed to create an 8-1 leader in the process. Meanwhile in the Locomotive Hall (M23) a pair of Sturm HS are locked in HtH Melee with a Russian Conscript Squad.

Now the Germans must hold fast their gains in the ensuing Russian half of Turn 7, with the hope of the scenario not ending this turn.

Red Factories, X-Tag, Session #5, Turns Played Russian 7;

I am sorry that I forgot to take pictures, but the German did not move and the Russian skulked back and forth as we concluded the Russian half of Turn 7, before the scenario ended.

The scenarios was a German victory with the CVP totals as follows: Russian 48, German 43

Attached is a map with the final front lines.

Excellent AAR George.

What remains of the respective at start forces? Do you think either side have the numbers to hold a coherent front?

It 'appears' the Russians have a problem on both flanks but a strong centre.

Of the Germans' starting force remaining: Squads 74% (57 of 77) Leaders 66% (12 of 18), & AFV 100% (4 of 4)

Yes the Russians' defence was stronger in the centre than the flanks; for the Germans it was a matter of advancing on the flanks without suffer too many casualties, as the Russians had sporadic forces along the flanks - about a platoon on each flank, but with some fire support from the factories area (especially on the left (north) flank, the 70mm Artillery caused considerable amount of problems for the German - who tended to bunch together.

Red Factories X-Tag, Session 6: Set Up CG Sceanio 2
Russians have given up or are lightly defended factories in Sector South.
In the Centre Sector the Russians appear to be defending heavy
In Sector North the Russians are holding the factories, but have withdrawn along the left flank.
The CG Starts with Overcast conditions.

Red Factories, X-Tag, Session 6, Turns 1 and German Turn 2 played;

9754

Weather Report: Overcast skies immediately opened up causing Rain at the start of the CG Scenario. The rain soon increase with Heavy Rain now coming down on the battlefield causing a +1 LV Hindrance every 6 hexes and an additional +1 MF/MP elevation change; it also prevents Smoke from being laid.

South Sector: the Russians had unexpectantly abandoned most of his front line of the previous CG Date withdrawing back at least 6 hexes; this withdraw also emptied Hall 8 save for a lonely unit in the far NE corner of factory. The German's commander pushed his platoon on the Right Flank forward boldly drawing lone range Russian Light Mortar and .50-cal machine-gun fire from the upper levels and roof tops of Hall 7 and 10. Being more cautious, the left flank platoon advanced into and captured Hall 8 and is in the process of clearing out Hall 8.

9755

Centre Sector: the Russians again had withdrawn the southern half of his troops in this sector, abandoning Hall 5a/Shop 1 and the adjoining buildings. The central part of the Russian line was thicken up in Halls 3 and 4 with long lines of Russian Concealed units and Reserve units within each factory. On the Left Flank of the Centre Sector, the Russians forces have set up in Halls 1 & 2 with a light screen of units to the front in adjoining buildings. German forces have tentatively advanced forward, the heavy rain making covering fire from firebases less effective.

9756

9757

North Sector: the Germans' deepest penetration into the Russians' line was in this sector during the previous CG Scenario. Once again the Russians had withdrawn a least 6 hexes and solidified his defences in Halls 1 & 2 in this sector. And again the Russians set up concealed units mixed with Reserves units forward with machine-guns and light mortars further back in upper levels, rooftops, and the slag heap to engage the advancing Germans when the get caught out in the open. The German continue to advance eastward towards the map edge and into the factories closing up on the Russians, helped and hindered by the heavy rain.

I don't know what they purchased, but I speculate they would get 2 infatnry companies; possible 1-2 Militia Companies and/or 1-2 SMG Companies. 2x (70mm + 80mm) artillery batteries, 4 Fortifications (160 FPP), and bump up their SAN from 4 to 5.

The Russians are withdrawing into the inner factories leaving light forces along the perimeter to slow the German advance, most likely to try and grind the Germans' advance to a halt or a slow plod forward.
