Seems like the convention is to not completely remove smoke capability from the Americans when a "6" is rolled and a subsequent dr of >= 1 is made (drm of -1 per 5 squads FRU)
With the added benefit of smoke becoming dispersed in the next Prep fire... 3 simple squads could put mountain of SMOKE on the board.... The subsequent dr means the 6 rolled in the placement doesn't mean instant death...
With the scenarios designed for needing the SMOKE, just SSR a number of Guaranteed rolls then any over the guaranteed are subject to "permanent" depletion.
Just curious...with smoke exponent of 3, Paratroopers defending are likely invulnerable to attack.
