Since we are using the place of last year's workshop --

1. The following thread contains a comprehensive reading list for TOAW newbies, as well as other useful info.

http://forums.gamesquad.com/showthread.php?t=42681

2. Many other threads from last year's workshop cover general questions and are thus useful for any beginner. They can be viewed by selecting "From the beginning" in "Display Options" at the bottom.

3. May I suggest someone makes the sticky posts concerning enlistment in the 2006 workshop "un-sticky"? :shy:

War College Curriculum

You might want to make the War College Curriculum thread a stickie, instead. That's another excellent source of info, with permanent relevance (i.e., until TOAW IV ships?).

Here are updated links to some of the reading suggestions from the link given above:

Notes from the Front by Siberian Heat (pics do not load correctly)

TOAW FAQ

TOAW Strategy Guide (1.06) by Steve Knowlton and Steve Schneider

How to Begin a Game: The Road to Rimini by Jean-Luc Betin (pics do not load correctly)

Replacements & Reconstitution in the Operational Art of War by General Staff

Have fun!
Be careful with some of these articles.

At this moment only General Staff and J-L Betin articles still applies (with due reserves)

All other articles (if good back then...) refer to TOAW-ACOW (and before) and don't reflect the new upgradings (and rules) done by TOAD.

None of these articles were produced after TOAW III release.

Keep in mind somehting written for CoW, while it can still have a lot of bearing, may be obsolete for T3.

Yes, they may not have been written for TOAW3 - but does that make them entirely obsolete? Were the changes to this version so dramatic?

For instance this

http://www.wargamer.com/toaw/scenplay/strategy.htm

is also for COW, not TOAW3, but it still gives a newbie a pretty good idea of the basic concepts. :)
Most still applies. But section III b) "The importance of flanking and enveloping movement" , especially the sub-chapter "tactical flanking" needs to be revised due to the new flanking rules.

There have been more minor changes, i.e. HQs and Artillery in T or L reserve mode won't move anymore in reaction to enemy attacks, low movement battles have been revisited among other things.
