Madly clipping all my ASL counters (it's sooooooo addictive BTW) and was thinking.

What is the rarest counter in the system?

I'm not thinking of rarest SW or Gun or AFV, but in the scheme of a scenario between two combatants, what would be rarest counter that could come into play but you would be very rarely see?

I was thinking it has to be a Japanese Hero. Not a THH or DC Hero, but a normal stand up Hero?

You have to roll 1,1, followed by at least another 1,1 (or up to 3 if elite).

Any others?

I'm chasing the elusive Black Maus counter which was produced in very limited quantities by CH. How often would that come into play? Only when you play Mighty Maus or some hypothetical DYO scenario. I know CH counters don't count in the same way as official ones. Just saying.

The infamous Hitler counter for one of the HoB SS-packs?

He features in a hypothetical scenario in which some fanatics attempt to escort Hitler safely out of the Reichskanzlei against the Russians closing in. The Hitler counter acts as some sort of 'super-commissar' with a one or two hex radius.

I forget what JR and I were playing. I was the IJA and on the attack. Once of my squads rolled the 1,1 and JR quipped "Oooooh. Just one more and you can have a hero." I naturally followed up with a 1,1 to create the hero. As I recall, that Hero later cut off the rout path of a big stack of broken units which was a big part of the scenario. That and a little IJA AA gun that always rolled low and always kept rate. He broke the crew off it finally as part of AFPh but of course, the crew self rallied and went back at it. -- jim (clipping is the source of enlightenment)

It's not rare if it features in 100% of the scenarios that it can possibly be used in.

What about a damaged FB - due to air to air combat? Not a counter per se but a counter combo described in E7.221 with a WND counter on the FB counter. Or perhaps unusual counter combinations is its own thread...

I've HoB's Hitler Berlin Red Vengeance (Blue), Fuhrer's Firemen (Black), and I think a CH Hitler. I've used one, once. HoB's version was a 6-0, the other an 8-0?

I've used a Fascine a very, very few times.

I've yet to use HP's T-100 or SMK or the corrected versions that came with Yanks 2.

The later ones are like the Uncle Adolph ones in that you should only use 1 each in any scenarios if you want to stay even remotely historical.

Who's for fighting between Hitler and his Black SS and a pretender Hitler and his Blue SS, Medieval style succession struggle?

EDIT: I've never used a Climbing counter.

Yep, used that combo after numerous aerial dogfights in the OzB CG.

One of the rarely used counters for me is REVERSE MOTION as I can't recall many times I've tried to back up out of trouble and keep moving into the next turn. But, I tend to shy away from large vehicle counts, desert scenarios, etc. where this might be more commonly seen.

Broken Ice is the one I know I've used *exactly* once.
At least I fondly remember a situation where it could have potentially been necessary:
Some winter scenario in the east. The Germans have to cross some frozen river including with some AFV. There is but one bridge, which of course was likely to be covered by the Russian AT assets. I was weighing (sic!) the risks and resolved to drive a halftrack with some infantry across the ice in a place where it could not be shot at and could flank and unhinge the Russian defensive position. If the ice held...

My opponent was taken on the left foot by this ploy. The ice held firm (thus also 'opening' that path for follow-up vehicles of the same or less weight). Plan worked out nicely.

I actually don't remember the exact details, but I know it was against @aiabx playing one of the AP3 Italian scenarios. Mostly what I remember that when it happened I had no idea where the counter was but "dadgummit I've cut and clipped that, I AM going to find and use it." We did. And both bucket lists were marked. :D

The scenario was Red Don. Haven't seen that counter used before or since, and no one fell in the river, but I was prepared to start bombarding the empty river itself on the last turn just to get it on the table.
