Questions from tonights game!

1. When a MG retains ROF in say the Prep Fire Phase can it then fire again in the PFP? WHat restrictions occur with ROF in any phase?

2. Can a Fire Group be formed in any phase for any type of attack?

Paul...

1. You mean the AFPh? No
A3.2 Prep Fire Phase (PFPh): The ATTACKER may fire SMOKE with ordnance/OBA, fire any of his units capable of fire, designate Opportunity Firers, or perform labor tasks. Place a Prep Fire counter on those units which fire, a Bounding Fire counter on Opportunity Firers, and a TI counter on those units which perform labor tasks.
[...]
3.5 Advancing Fire Phase (AFPh): The ATTACKER's units which did not fire in the PFPh or attempt to perform a task requiring TI status may fire at half FP (see C.4 for ordnance/vehicular fire) [EXC: FT/MOL/DC (22-23) and Opportunity Firers (7.25) attack at full strength]. Remove all Prep Fire and Bounding Fire counters at the end of this phase.
2. No, not in the case of CC, Ordnance fire, FTs, etc.
But if you speak of forming FGs with 'normal' IFT attacks, you can do it during DFF, DFPh, AFPh...

Yes, the MG can fire in the Prep Fire Phase as many times as it retains rate, with no restriction. (EX A 9.21 Field of Fire, I don't think Field of Fire is in the SK)

During your Oppontent's Movement Phase MGs may continue to fire as long as the MG retains rate of fire. You are restricted to only firing a target unit in a given hex as may times as the unit spent MF's in the hex.

Example (assume rate of fire is retained in all cases)

Your opponent charges across the open ground at you (1MF per Hex) you may only shoot at that unit once per hex (with the same MG)

If your opponent is moving in the woods (2 MF per Hex) you can shoot at him twice per hex (with the same MG)

All the above assume you have retained rate and thus are not marked with a First Fire Counter.
If you are marked with a First Fire counter you are subject to the restrictions of Subsequent First Fire (SFF)

Yes, in any Fire Phase (and Movement Phase), with a few exeptions, for example Flame thowers and Demo Charges may not join FGs and must attack seperatly.

I answered the #1 question thinking there was a "typo"...
Of course a MG can go on firing during the PFPh if it retains ROF - it can have its CA restricted, however, if it fires from a building or woods and is a MMG/HMG - LMG are free from that restriction...
