Question about extensions

I'm noodling around with making an extension for VASL. I've created the extension, added a map, figured out zones and at start stacks to prepopulate some counters but I've hit a snag I can't figure out from scanning the documentation (no I haven't read it cover to cover, I'm just trying to skim it for relevant information ). I would like to copy some example counters from VASL into the extension and then customize them. For the life of me I can't seem to get it to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

Thanks, I don't know what happened but when I went back and tried my existing setup I was able to copy/paste/modify the existing counters into my extension.
