Hello,

I am puzzled by the fact that we have over 700 registered members on WarfareHQ.com, and hardly we see new members posting in this great forum...

Day after day, I have read a lot of post by familiar names, but not the new members.

I wonder have we old posters scared away the new members by intelligent debates on various topics?

Dan :D

Only 50% ?

I bet that would make for an interesting conversation. :D

I agree, I was wondering about that myself, most of the posters on this forum are from the TOAW ladder.

I disagree, we have seen some new members posting here such as 'Red Devil' and 'Poor Old Spike'. :(

The TOAW ladder is the most active 'game-specific' part of the forum, so that part speaks for itself. Also, I've been doing this type of thing (Sysop/Moderator/Staff, etc) since the coming of the BBS waaaay back, and it's always been this way. There are the regulars, and then the members-at-large.

But then again, the openness of our community makes us have a fairly healthy turnover of new members. All things considered, I think we have the most vibrant community on the net. That's why I'm here, at any rate!

For whatever reason, there are a significant amount of regular visitors to the webiste who never register. They come on a regular basis and check things out, smooze around the forum then leave. I guess we're giving these guys what they need as well, just in a different kind of way.

There are some people who feel uncomfortable typing for some reason. They just don't do it. I suppose there are a lot of possible reasons for that. There are also a fairly significant portion of Warfare HQ members who post in their own forum on a regular basis, but have no interest in the "General Discussion" forum. Their posts tend to be game specific and to the point.

I never used to have much to do with this (Gen Disc) forum in the 'early' days either. But as I became more and more familiar with the members, and found many new friends here, I find myself bouncing all over the place. I even read all the posts on the CM forum, and I don't even play that game!

Speaking as one of the "infrequent"-type posters, in my case, a primary issue is time (or a lack thereof) for posting. Heck, there are periods when I don't even visit HQ for 2 to 4 days at a stretch!

In some cases, I'm ready to post, then read pretty much the same thing I was going to type already on the board as a reply...and in others, I simply don't know enough about the topic at hand to make an intelligent contribution (I think the adage in play here is along the lines of "Better to remain silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.").

Seriously though, I think it all comes down to personalities. Some folks are more shy than others, some more boisterous. In my case, I enjoy following many of the discussions on here, even if I don't participate in them...learning the rationale behind the various opinions expressed can be quite illuminating and educational.

The fact the overwhelming majority of the members on the site (adminstrators included in this generalization!) come across as pretty easy-going, reasonably well-read, and likeable guys (and gals) was a bonus. That's ultimately why I signed up here after being one of those unregistered lurkers for quite some time.

I guess im one of the new ppl to visit the forum.
Just recently got introduced to the game by my brother.
Im still trying to figure out how to keep the germans from invading moscow in the 10 turn in barbarossa, i guess that would qualify me as a noob.

But its been amusing to read your posts, especially the ones from cheetah, they dont make his kind anymore, where im from.

Glad to see somebody who could be amused by a conservative.

I'm curious, just where are you from? Your flag looks like it's from Denmark. Am I right?

No conservatives in Denmark? It must be liberals' idea of a perfect utopia or a perfect paradise where no liberal has to listen to a bunch of "no-good" conservatives... :D

Weird. For a while, I couldn't even find this thread, it disappeared, well, at least to me. Then all of a sudden, Chuck posted, and voila! The thread is here at last...

Not any in your league anyway. :)
Though our prime minister is a big fan of bush, but he only got elected because he changed his views and is now a big supporter of the welfare state. Thats the political mantra of denmark, u have no chance of winning an election without showing your a big supporter of it.

Actually the liberals here is the right wing, the left is socialist.

Looks like the political spectrum is so different between the US and Europe. Am I correct in assuming the leftist position is more or less considered mainstream politics in Europe?

Don't worry Cheetah722. I have been informed the Democrats are 'social democrats' rather than 'socialist'. I gues the Green party are 'socialist'. We have no communist that I know off.

In France there is actually a party to the left of communist. Can you believe that one? :D

Dan In europe a liberal is a center right man, who want less state intervention !!!!

Left in France is split within left center moderate ( very few now) Socialist and communist hum 30 % of poll, ultra leftist Totskist and maoist 10% who want revolution anf the Great Evening now, Hang Boss and priest with their guts

Right is split in
Center 10% mainly Euro federalist
The Right 30% (including Social-republican<-> old gaulist and liberal)
Facist 10 to 20%
