Here goes a monster AAR of OtO's CG. I am playing the defenders of the Motherland, repellers of the Fascists, the Russians.
Initial Russian purchases: 3 of given V5, 2 given V4, and the given I5 RGs are setup onbd for an extra CPP each. Purchased RGs: V4, G4 (onbd), 2 x F1, O7, M2, O2 w O6 obsvr @ lev 2, I2, I7 (onbd), I1 (onbd), V2 (onbd), I3 (onbd), I5, and M3. 65 CPP spent.
The initial bombardments are set for K33 and X33. The O6 ofbd obsvr is in X53 at lev 2.
The 120 OBA (rgO2) is Pre REG at Z34.
The Russian get some good leadership including 6 armor leaders, and a 10-2 and a 10-3 inf ldrs.
I hoped that setting most of my force onbd, it would give a quick start to the 1st assault. There is alot of OG to cover and little rally terrain (although orchards are rally terrain by SSR and are the bulk of the rally terrain available over a mostly OG map). There are an 82 and 120Mrt each, on each side of the railroad (which divides the center along the map), hopefully to generate some smoke. The Rus OBA only gets one smoke mission, a definite hurt for the Russians.
The initial Ruuski plan was to advance along northside of railroad embankment towards the R28 woods, hopefully breaking thru any German fortifications, while clearing out any rear guard around the X38 victory obj. A great dr for recon, 10 locations, was largely useless, as the Germans stuck to their line and left no rear guard near my frontline.
After setup the German line was in view. A connected trench-ATditch line frm end to end, behind the 1st line of gullies (DD32-A32). Wire is in front of it along the north end. A 2-5-7 PB is in AA31. Heavy minefields are expected.
The Rus bombardments were weak. They drifted and landed in X32 and I32. The Germans lost a trench and a wire, but their trench line was cut in U30 with a SH.
Rus Tn 1: Recon did find a MF around the X38 bldg. Light resistance made the advance forward easy, so far. Ger 88s begin firing from behind his line, a Su122 in the L42 woods is killed 1st. An 88 in Q25 knocks off a T34 in AA39. Rus adv into mines and take 1st location objective in X38. 2 Ger AA guns are in AA mode already.

Ger Tn 1: German OBA hits Z39 and S41 (harrassing), light Rus losses. The Q25 88 takes out a PT34(L) mineroller in W38. Rus air support strafes theAA30-DD31 trench line a few times, and breaks an 88 crew in AA30. That crew was still dazed when a T-34 scores a CH on them to elim the 1st 88. Rus place a SR in T29.

Rus Tn 2: Rain begins, just when I planned to lay smoke, both with OBA and MRTs that had area acquired some hexes. More Rus air support, 1 44a Shturmovik w no Rckts, arrives but circles above the rain. Rus Counterbattery misses. Rus 120 HE OBA hits S30. Ger 120 harrassing OBA hits and blazes a KV-1S. Rus tanks mv forward, their point reaches Q34-R34. The Russians decide to avoid some 88 shots and OBA and move onto Northern edge hill. Ger 150 OBA hits rips Russian infantry at CC38; Ger 120 harrassing OBA brks Rus inf in R42-43. The Rus tanks concentrate fire along northern trench line and R30 trnch/woods.

Ger Tn 2: The rain ends! Ger gets access for 150 OBA and devastates Rus near X38 (Pre REG by Ger), X40 loses 2.5 sqds in KIA, others break and X38 catches flame. An 88 in H26 kills the other Su122 in M43. A Rus mistaken attk luckily kills no Rus but recalls. Nothing worse than seeing the German player control your air support. Germans in CC31 AT ditch survive numerous 2MCs and 3MC from air strikes, then finally HOB (BH and 3rd Ger hero so far). A Rus 82 MRT elims an unarmored AA HT in Y26. A Ger Hmg cupola is destroyed by Rus tanks in Q31.

Rus Tn 3: With rain gone, on 2nd access, Rus 120 OBA smokes BB33. We're going for a penetration on the extreme right. Rus tanks move towards smoke to gain as much cover as possible from that 88 in Q35. Ger 150 OBA hits home again and kills 2 sqds and 9-2 in Z39. Lead Russians find AP mines in AA33, more Rus move along northern hill along edge. A Ger hero w LMG anchors the Ger line at the DD31 AT ditch. Losses so far: Rus 67 cvp, Ger 17 cvp.

Ger Tn 3: Ger AFV prepare to enter along N edge. Ger 150 OBA, 3rd mission, Hits X38, rubbles it and elims 1.5 Rus sqds., flame extinguished by rubble. The last Rus Shturmovik misses a Stug III entering DD26. More Stug with AA HT escort enter northern hill orchard just west of their trench line. A Stug IIIL in U11 kills a PT34L in U37, at 26 hexes. Rus shift OBA smoke to X32 to help cover tanks. In aerial combat the last Shturmovik's rear gunner downs a FW190 (were using the VftTrenches aircraft counters, same values but better depictions).

Rus Tn 4: Rus setup reinforcing Inf with trucks. Rus OBA lays smoke along with some good mortar smoke, finally some good cover. The Russian sniper kills its 2nd Ger leader, Germans are hurting for leaders. A KV-1 gets a BF CH on the Ger pillbox in AA31 with AP, despite their desperate PF shot, breaks one sqd and CRs other. More Russians move towards right and across hill under smoke cover. Rus start hitting wire and mines in AA33-CC34. Ger 150 OBA hurts Rus again, brks 10-2 in V40, 2 kia sqds in W40. A Rus afv is shocked in U36, at 26 hexes range by Stug IIIL.

Ger Tn 4: Rain again, bye bye smoke. We broke up the action here, temporarily. It took about 9-10 hours of play time (incl setup) to get here. Russian losses at start of prep: 46 Arm cvp, 39 Inf cvp including Arm ldrs.
Return to action, Ger prep starts. Ger 120 OBA SR drifts to G46. Ger 150 OBA gains access, its SR drifts to CC31. The other Ger HMG cupola mals its MG in N30. 2 Ger heroes alone w MMG in AA31 and other hero w LMG in DD31 continue to harrass advancing Russians, but LMG in DD31 finally malfs. Ger move men from southside of RR embankment along trench to reiforce north. Rus 120 harrassing OBA HE manages to KIA a sqd in T31 and a h/s in R30 trench. 2 Rus tanks PB fire at heroes in AA31 PB w AP for NE. Ger advance a 4-6-7 into that PB.

Rus Tn 5: Rus receive air support of 2 Shturmovik (42A w rckts, 1 w PTAB) but rain prohibits entry. Uncertainty of entry due to weather, had us rolling for air reinforcements, but if rain was in effect, they remained OFF board. Not sure if this was correct by OtO rules. Rus 120 OBA (harrassing), corrects and shocks a Ger MG HT(SPW251/mg) in N30. A PT34L begins retreat in rev motin, and avoids 3 D1F shots to get to T38. Rus inf, most reinforcements that entered on trucks, spread out from the C42 wheatfield, to grab some ground on southern bd edge. The trucks retreat off bd edge. Ger 120 harrassing OBA drifts to K43 with NE on nearby inf. A desperate PF shot frm the AA31 PB gets a 1,1. Blazes a KV-1 in AA32, but CRs sqd and wounds a hero from backblast.

Ger Tn 5: Rain ends. Germans get 3 Stukas w 37L AT guns (is Rudel in the bunch?). Ger 150 OBA goes harrassing, another mission, hits DD34, Rus CR a sqd, 2 broke, 2 pinned in FFE. Ger Q25 88 elims KV-1S in BB38 with 10-2 arm ldr, although crew survives. A Stug IIIL kills a T34 in DD37 from hill/orchard DD28. Another Stug IIIL in AA29 blazes a PT34L in T38. A Stug IIIL in X28 immobilizes a T34 in T41. Luckily a Stug malfs MA in BB19 bypass. Rus draw red for OBA access. A Stug in U27 is shocked by a Rus 120 MRT in AA44. A Rus Shturmovik kills a Stug w RKTs. Game ends here.

Refit phase: Rus losses = 110 cvps, 41 were infantry. Ger losses just over 25 cvp. Rus lose a KV1 to recall on failed repair dr. Only 4 Pt34 retained and a T34. One T34M43 immobile on battlefield. The Rus perimeter runs A41-E44-AA33-DD35, with MF TB in AA33. Ger perimeter runs A40-V29-DD34.

Afterthoughts by Rus commander: Probably should have bought more OBA. The setup of 2 onbd MRTs on S side of RR embankment, and the 2 SU-122s, should have been placed on N side of embankment, where main effort was at. Not sure if paying for onbd setup of most forces was worth the CPP expense. South side of RR embankment looks even worse to cross. Still, most infantry are intact. Wrecks, SHs and even OG orchards(CG SSR) strew north side. Rus can have 4 OBA missions per CG day. Ger ofbd obsvr was at level 3, directing 150 OBA, was devastating. Germans were hurting for leaders at scenario end. But those 3 German heroes earned their Iron Crosses holding the north edge. The orchards helped the Ger AFVs avoid air attack, by either LOS or Aerial TC. Germans brought in some Nashorns, which prove difficult to remove except by air attack.

The next day starts soon. This seems a fun CG. Lots of chrome, especially with air support. Assaulting a well fortified line is another ASL challenge. Lots of long range shots are another challenge for ASLers

Great AA!

One thing you should check is that IL-2s may fly and attack in the rain. I don't have a copy in the house and it is too cold to go outside but its there in either the AS rules or the chapter divider.

Oops,

I should have remembered that we changed it back to on board but not in the rain you played it correctly.
