From the 24 Panzer Division (the leaping horsemen) diary - 10 October 1942.

I believe the top entry is an account of the operational tanks of the division, and their types - PzKpfw II, III, IV with "lang" and "kurz" meaning long barreled main armanent and short barreled main armament respectively. Also two command tanks (Befehls panzer). Second para refers to vehicles waiting for replacement engines and spare parts.

24 Panzer Division ................................................................................. Division Command Post 18 Dec 1942
Dept IIa (Adjutant)

ORDER OF THE DAY

Members of the division listed below have recently shown particular achievement and bravery in the struggles for Stalingrad and in the large Don-Basin. I express my thanks and appreciation to them on behalf of the division. Their actions have gone down in the history of the division.

1. Oberleutnant von Borcke, Panzer-Regiment 24

Squadron commander Oberleutnant von Borcke was tasked with marching his tank squadron parallel to the division from Jerusslanowskij on November 21, 1942. It turned out that the bridge over the liska marked on the map was not available. Since the towns north and south were already occupied by the Russians and evasion was out of the question, the squadron was cut off with its supply vehicles. An attempt to reach the division's line of march was unsuccessful due to difficulties in the terrain and a violent night battle. Nevertheless, Oblt. V. Borcke, completely surrounded and under enemy attack, managed to fight his way through with the entire squadron and rejoined the division on November 23, 1942.

(Note that 24 Panzer Division was created from a horse cavalry division, and thus used "squadron" terminology.)

7. Obergefreiter Gillmeister, 6th Company, Panzergrenadier Regiment 26

When the Russians broke through at Orlovka on December 3, 1942, and with all the men in his squad fallen in action, Obergefreiter Gillmeister personally held out with the M.G. while cut off from his unit until relieved by a counter-attack. He inflicted heavy losses on the enemy.

9. Feldwebel Waschk, 3rd Company, Armoured Engineer Battalion 40

Feldwebel Waschk has distinguished himself in numerous cases, especially when laying mines, by reliable and trouble-free work, often under strong enemy pressure. On the 7th and 8th of December 1942 he moved forward of friendly lines and relocated 290 Teller mines while under heavy small arms and artillery fire. Feldwebel Waschk died a hero's death on 16 December 1942.

The German War Graves Commission lists Feldwebel Heinz Walter Waschk (born 11 Dec 1914) as being killed on 17 December 1942 near Stalingrad. His name is listed on the wall at the cemetery at Rossoschka, Russia:

oh I wanted info on the 7th inf div.
I'm in the same boat, I really wanted info on the 65th. But - the divisional historian, writing in 1974, noted that a lot of divisions never had much in the way of archival holdings after the war. What didn't get bombed often got burned by Germans with a heavy sense of duty in May 1945. Ordnung muss sein. That was how the transcripts of Hitler's military conferences for the last four years of the war were lost, with the exception of a few hundred pages. The German officer in charge of the copies burned them, then shot himself. After the war was over, for all the sense that made.

Working on a project regarding the 7th?

More for my own study, seems to be one of the oldest German divisions that fought in Poland, France, and Eastern Front that survived until the end of the war. I'm thinking there might be some stories in their history.
