The Qatar National Library has created an online digital library of archival documents that are of relevance to them. A large proportion of these seem to be digital images of documents held in the India Office Records section of the British Library. This includes a number of documents relating to British naval policy and operations in the Persian Gulf area in the first half of the 20th Century. The sort of documents I retrieved from them included a copy of CB917B - the Naval Staff Monograph on WW1 Naval Operations in Mesopotamia and the Persian Gulf, and a variety of other documents relating to the establishment of British Naval Bases in the area in the 1930s and 40s.

The website looks to be pretty well funded, and well set up, with a good search facility, and the ability to easily download entire files as a single high-quality PDF. I suspect over time their collection will grow to become a very useful resource.
