The line of sight rules are extremely detailed and are a complex structure of changes, modifications and exceptions. I can see what the designers are trying to achieve, but as to whether there is an easier way to do it, or describe it is the question. One thing for sure is that unless you spend a considerable amount of time reading the LOS section then the chances are you will make errors. Hull down and HA being two typical areas where players new to the module will get it wrong.
