Does anyone know why OCS Panzer Divisions do not include a Engineers Batt.?
In most OCS games, they are considered inherent to the HQ counters.

5.10b
D) HQ engineering abilities and
Draw/Throw ranges are unaffected
by DG, but their Movement
Allowance and Combat strength
are affected normally.

13.1 HQ Units
HQs provide supply distribution
and engineer support. HQs are
1 RE in size, regardless of
what is shown on the unit
designation.

13.8 Engineer Functions
Engineer and HQ units are the only
Engineer-Capable units.

I think the whole thing has been glossed over in the OCS system. Were not Engineer units used in combat? I don't think the HQ units address that aspect of the unit.

Considering the rest of the HQ element is likely supply and other non-combat arms, maybe this is where the HQ gets it's combat strength from?

Considering Dean's meticulous OOB research, I do not believe it has been glossed over. I would say pward has a point too. Also there are many classifications of Engineer units, I know for sure Combat Engineers were organized at the company level, but I have no recollection of them at the battalion level.

Why don't you e-mail him, dean.essig at gmail.com, and ask him yourself?

Yes, "glossed over" was a poor choice of words on my part. I think it comes down to the Engineers being part of the HQ, as previously posted. Thanks for the link to Dean. If I find out anything new, I will post.

Probably because players would use them to absorb step losses while in real life the divisional commanders hoarded these specialized troops.

Also their combat strength is probably included in the motorized infantry regiments.

13.8 Engineering Functions:

Design Note:
A large portion of a
side’s engineer capability is tied to its HQ
units. The idea here is to keep a multitude
of non-combat engineer units out of
the counter-mix. In real life, these units
typically spend most of their time doing
their assigned tasks. In games, all too
frequently, they end up as poor excuses
for infantry units and their original task
is forgotten. Unit counters are not present
here to prevent such misuse.
