Rick
No, 1.06 was never stated to have hexside rivers. It is something Norm is working on and hopes to have in a future patch.

Norm seems to have relaxed a bit on the copy protection - this new game exe's doesn't even need the registry entries to run. :D

I figure that will change in the final release.

I was able to open and run South Front 42 with Opart and Opart 300 with no problems using 1.06.

What OS are you using? Just so we have a basis for comparison for Norm.
an XP Home, P4,512M,1.8GHz
Opart300, 1.04+nocd+1.06 (compatibility mode first was w98, now I disabled the compatibility):

South Front 42
And the message:
Not loadable: This version of TOAW can not load this scenario

But some others work OK.

Just a guess, but are you *SURE* that the scenarios that are not loading are those that have been written for, or converted to, the Century of Warfare version? Is it the version that is on the CoW disk, or did you download these off of the web? Maybe they are for earlier versions of TOAW?

File date is nov/22/1999 15:37 for South Front 42

(This is relatively newly installed toaw I didnt have time to transport downloaded scenarios from my older machine)

OK, I tried something:
I tried from the begining and
Arracourt, Attu, Bong Son, Cherbourg, Chosin were unsuccesful, but I was succesful to open them by Opart.
So the problem occurs then I try to open a small scenario with Opart300, but I am succesful opening huge scenarios with Opart300.

Strange but I can live with it...

Can someone verify the following with 1.06.

Open regular OPART exe. Select a scenario that is OPART300 and see if it pops up an error when it asks you to switch versions. It gives me a non fatal error message "cannot find path specified" although it still switches to OPART300

Also, if you open a .PBL file while in OPART it asks again if you want to switch to OPART300 and when you do it gives another non-fatal error "syntax is incorrect"

Yes. The problem is with starting a new scenario or opening a PBL OR SAL file when you are in regular OPART. It does switch to OPART300, error notwithstanding, and will load on second attempt with no problems since by then you are in OPART300. Tested with Overlord 44, an OPART300 scenario on the ACOW CD.

I encountered neither of the two problems.

System specs:

Toshiba Satellite 5205-S703 Laptop Computer
Win XP Home
2.0 GHz Pentium 4-M CPU
512 MB PC2100 RAM
NVidia GeForce4 460 Go Graphics, with 64 MB VRAM

Nothing like that, switching works OK.

Just for the record since all the Win XP Home systems seem OK, my system is Win 2K Pro.

No such problems here. I simply renamed the two opart.exes and slapped them right in the TOAW folder. Tried both ways and got no error.

But one thing I do notice, is that the code on my computer "seems" about 5 times as fast. The initial screen pops up instantaneously. I'm checking some of the longer loading times to see if I've gained any speed.

Don't jump for joy...it's probably just me...it usually is.

Alright...I just loaded DNO and for the first time ever, the first turn loaded in under 20 minutes.

18 to be exact.

Before it was taking around 25.

Just a quick note on 1.06. Seems to have made improvements in performance with Windows XP. Been trying all kinds of abuse with it and it has been taking very well. No problems with scenarios, nor Pbem, nor editing. Haven't seen any new features so far. Has anyone found something new yet? About a year and a half ago I had turned to Norm for help with getting WOTY to work with XP. (Talonsoft was not telling me anything I hadn't tried already) With COW most of the problems were solved. Now this seems to have put the finishing touches on XP problems at my end. Thanks Norm (again)

True, there is little substantiative modifications in 1.06 that could be considered newsworthy. However, Norm has stated he wants to use the unwrapped (non-copy protected) 1.06 as a baseline for future modifications. So, the sooner everyone is on 1.06 and using it regularly, the sooner we can declare 1.06 to be stable, and the sooner Norm can begin adding modifications to future patches.

It is not a waste of time to share the patch with your friends!
