Please note Joe Gochinski is working a Friday mini, but we did not have details for yesterday's post. It will be the usual 2 round format for 4 players. The rules are the same as prior Friday minis and there are prizes for all involved. :) The scenario list will be available in late Dec 2021 or early Jan 2022.

Admin info on Friday mini:

  1. Just like in the main tourney, players in the Friday mini should pick 3 scenarios and number them in order of preference for each round. Please remember wins and losses count in the main tourney.
  2. Errata will or has been incorporated into the scenario cards. If an unknown erratum becomes available, it will be provided at the tourney.
  3. The plan is to have scenario booklets for each participant in the Friday mini. It will be provided to each participant before the tourney. Each participant will be individually contacted or they can email the coordinator at jgochinski at yahoo.com to make arrangements. (Please note: Scenarios are only provided to the actually participants in the mini tourney)
  4. Anything not covered by the above will be handled by the main tourney rules and tourney directors.

Correction to the Starter Kit (SK) information for Nor'easter XXVI:

There will not be a SK tournament but rather training sessions. "Professor" Mitch Abrams will still be handling this on Saturday March 26th only. SK play can still happen on Thu Mar 24th, Fri Mar 25th or Sun Mar 27th, of course. We can assist with match ups based on who is available on those days.

The training will specifically work, via selected scenarios, on the portions of participant's game that they want to improve. This is an opportunity for each individual to improve and focus on specific parts of the game that they would like to focus on. They also get help doing that by knowledgeable individuals. However, it is only done on Saturday and there is a minimum amount of people necessary to conduct this. The operational number is 8.

We hope a lot SK players are able to make it to Nor'easter XXVI!! After signing up, please drop a note to Mitch (mhabrams@comcast.net) if you would like to participate in the Saturday training sessions.

The opening sentence of the description mentions the event is the "Regional New England ASL Championships". Does this mean the main tournament is limited to New England residents?

I ask, because while I am far from certain whether it will come to pass, I have the beginnings of a plan: 1 Fly from Vancouver to visit family in Nova Scotia, 2 Fly down to Boston for a couple of days to see the city (and I note the Montreal Canadiens will be in town), 3 Head down to Fairhaven to lose some ASL games.

As Michael said, all are welcome! We even have New Yorkers come to the tournament, and they usually win!

In all seriousness, we would love to have you Glen. If you have any questions, please let us know and we encourage you to join our mailing list at https://groups.io/g/yasl

I had some difficulties trying to reserve the hotel room. Currently I do have a room reserved, but apparently they just today received the paperwork they need to submit to formalize the group rate. I was told I need to call back early December (about the 10th) to update my reservation to obtain the group rate.

Hello ASLers! The main tournament scenario list for Nor'easter 2022 (XXVI) is now available! Head on over to https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreaster2022.php to see and download the list. We hope to have the lists for the mini tournaments soon too. Please note that for Starter Kit play, we do not have a tournament and thus a fixed set of scenarios. So bring whatever you are itching to play and/or let us match you up with someone!

We have plenty of room so if you not signed up, please do so ASAP. Especially if you want a t-shirt. The signup deadline for a t-shirt is Feb 7th. The pre-registration price for the tournament is available until Mar 3rd.

As a final note, have updated our COVID-19 policy based on the latest guidelines and rules from the state and locality. This is always available and up to date at https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreaster2022.php :

We will be requesting that attendees Self Test the day before you arrive. Free tests can be obtained at https://www.covidtests.gov/ or contact your health insurance company on how to obtain a free test. Also, test kits are also available at CVS, Walgreens and other pharmacies throughout the country for a very moderate cost.

If you do test POSITIVE please contact Carl Nogueira at carlhnogueira@gmail.com and we can discuss getting a refund to you. We highly encourage all participants to be vaccinated and boosted. Masks are optional and hand sanitizer will be available on site in copious quantities.

In addition, if you feel ill PLEASE stay home - sometimes the Covid tests will give a false negative.

Hello Everyone!

It is early Feb 2022 and we have plenty of room still available for the live and in person Nor'easter 2022 (XXVI). The full dates are Thu March 24 - Sun March 27, 2022. Our usual 4 ASL offerings are on board this year.

The main ASL tournament is 5 rounds starting Fri March 25th. Two rounds on Friday, two rounds on Saturday and the final round on Sunday. Each round has 5 scenario choices and they are all posted (including scans) at https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreaster2022.php. Full tournament rules are posted on the site.

We do not have a Starter Kit tournament but we do have Starter Kit play available with training support provided by "Professor" Mitch Abrams and others. Matchup assistance is available from the Tournament Director (Carl) and the rest of the Nor'easter staff on hand during the whole weekend. Mitch will be 'on campus' on Sat March 26th to assist with training.

Finally, we have the 2 usual mini ASL tournaments. Joe Gochinski is the tournament director for the Friday mini and he sends the players the scenario list when ready. Please note, the Fri mini is currently full but you may ask to be on a 'waiting list' if someone has to bail. Ralph McDonald is the tournament director for the Saturday tournament and this year is again "Fog of War". The scenarios are provided at game time. Note, players are informed of the 'nationalities' involved so the proper kits can be brought along. It looks like there might be 1 slot left for the Sat mini so sign up soon if you are interested! Final note, players in the Friday mini are automatically enrolled in the main tournament as well.

As a bonus, Thu March 24th is available for open gaming. We posted some suggested scenarios but you are welcome to play whatever you like!
Please see https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreaster2022.php for full information on how to sign up, how much it costs, how to book a hotel room at a reduced rate, etc. Note, if you want to order a t-shirt, the signup deadline is Feb 7th. But you can just show up on the weekend if you want to play too.

Please come join us for spring ASL action!

Hi Folks,

A reminder that No'reaster XXVI is just 9 days away!! So far we have 35 souls signed up for ASL and Starter Kit fun and there is plenty of room for more. One can still register online until March 22nd (FYI, we have passed the t-shirt cutoff date, though) or one can just show up and register at the door. The scenario lists are all posted on the website and as usual, full information is there. To recap:

The ASL Nor'easter is New England's regional ASL championships. It is held annually near Boston, MA. It is a yearly get-together of people in the New England area and beyond that play Advanced Squad Leader (ASL). The Nor'easter is hosted and directed by the boys from The Bunker and the Yankee ASL Group

Visitors are very welcome, and you'll probably be able to play a game if you want to learn. Have a look at the archived web sites for previous Nor'easters to see what the event is like.

Doors open at 10AM on Thursday 3/24 and close at 6PM on Sunday 3/27, or when the State Troopers throw us out, with 24-hour access to the gaming rooms. The Thursday game play is open gaming, with the main and mini-tournaments beginning on Friday.

To be matched with a particular opponent in round one of the Main Tourney or for open gaming on Thursday, or the SK event, please contact us directly by email at carlhnogueira@gmail.com or through our group, (preferred) yasl@groups.io. For SK match-ups to be pre-scheduled, please contact mhabrams@comcast.net In all other instances, players will be matched as they arrive.

Thursday: Open gaming all day. This is a great opportunity to knock off that big scenario you have been giving the eyeball for a while, but have not had time to play.

All players from beginners to experts are encouraged to play, and the emphasis is on having fun. All attendees are automatically entered into a random drawing for fabulous door prizes.

Starter Kit Players are Welcome!
