Announcement:
The Yankee ASL Group (https://www.yankeegamers.org/) announces Nor'easter XXIV! Our 24th year will be our 2nd year at the new location in Fairhaven, MA. Nor'easter XXIV will be held at the "Hampton Inn New Bedford/Fairhaven" hotel in Fairhaven, MA. The dates are March 26th through March 29th, 2020. Full description and details are below:
Description:
The ASL Nor'easter is New England's regional ASL championships. It is held annually near Boston, MA. It is a yearly get-together of people in the New England area that play Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) and Advanced Squad Leader Starter Kit (SK). The Nor'easter is hosted and directed by the boys from The Bunker and the Yankee ASL Group.
Visitors are very welcome, and you will be able to play a game if you want to learn. Have a look at the archived web sites for previous Nor'easters (http://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/index.php) to see what the event is like.
Doors open at 10AM EDT on Thursday March 26th and close at 6PM EDT on Sunday March 29th (or when the State Troopers throw us out) with 24-hour access to the gaming rooms. The Thursday game play is open gaming, with the ASL Main and Mini-Tournaments, and ASL Starter Kit (SK) play beginning on Friday.
To be matched with an opponent in Round 1 of the Main ASL Tourney or for open gaming on Thursday, please contact us directly by email at our group at yasl@yahoogroups.com (see below on how to subscribe). For SK match-ups to be pre-scheduled, please contact Mitch Abrams at mhabrams@comcast.net. In all other instances, players will be matched as they arrive.
If you are not already a member of the YASL group in Yahoo! Groups, please visit https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/yasl/info for instructions on how to join.
Thursday: Open gaming all day. This is a great opportunity to knock off that big scenario you have been giving the eyeball for a while, but have not had time to play.
All players from beginners to experts are encouraged to play, and the emphasis is on having fun. All attendees are automatically entered into a random drawing for fabulous door prizes.
The Nor'easter is Starter Kit (SK) and new ASL player friendly. Mitch Abrams will be the main point of contact on Friday and Saturday to make sure new players and SK players get assistance in finding games and opponents. Tournament Director Robert “Kedge” Johnson will assist Mitch to this end and also be the main point of contact for both the main and the SK tournaments all weekend.
Please contact either Mitch (mhabrams@comcast.net) or Kedge (wintrymix@gmail.com) for more details. It is always recommended that new players notify us of their intention to come so that we can have some matches in place prior to their arrival. That said, if you do not know until the last minute, still come on down, we will work something out to get you gaming!
Nor’easter XXIV will include Pizza Night on Saturday night! Don’t forget your appetite.
The Tournaments:
The main tournament (Tournament Director Kedge) is 5 rounds over 3 days and there are also 2 "minis". Main tournament play is from a scenario list of five scenarios per round. Each player chooses 3 scenarios of the five, along with their preference of side. The choices are then compared to determine scenario played, sides played and what if any balance will be assigned. The Friday mini and Saturday mini are perfect for those who can only make it for 1 day, although players in the Friday mini are also included in the main tournament.. Don't forget, there are prizes galore and a great raffle too!
The main tournament scenario list is expected to be released by January 2020.
The Friday tournament (Directory Joseph Gochinski) will also be 3 rounds, but just on Friday. Joe will announce the “theme” for this year’s tournament at a later date.
The Saturday tournament (Directory Ralph MacDonald) will be 3 rounds of “Fog of War”. Participants will be told which nationalities will be in play, but the scenarios themselves will not be revealed until the tournament starts! Full details to be announced at a later date.
