Nor'easter XXIII reminder!!!

Hello fellow ASLers,
A reminder that we are fast approaching Spring 2019 and the beloved Nor'easter tournament in New England. We have moved to a new location: Fairhaven, MA! Come help us christen our new location and get some top quality ASL action in at the same time! We have plenty of room for players of all skill levels and special section setup for Starter Kit players. Our own Joe Gochinski will have some new Starter Kit scenarios available for playtesting too!
Full information is below.

NEW LOCATION!!
After many years in Boxborough, MA we have changed venue to Hampton Inn New Bedford/Fairhaven hotel at 1 Hampton Way, Fairhaven, MA. Put the address into GPS and you will find it fast.
:) Fairhaven is a great town and this will be a great venue for us for years to come.

The ASL Nor'easter is New England's regional ASL championships. It is held annually near Boston, MA. It is a yearly get-together of people in the New England area that play Advanced Squad Leader (ASL). The Nor'easter is hosted and directed by the boys from The Bunker and the Yankee ASL Group.

Visitors are very welcome, and you'll probably be able to play a game if you want to learn. Have a look at the archived web sites for previous Nor'easters (http://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/index.php) to see what the event is like.
Doors open at 10AM EDT on Thursday March 21st and close at 6PM EDT on Sunday March 24th (or when the State Troopers throw us out) with 24-hour access to the gaming rooms. The Thursday game play is open gaming, with the main and mini-tournaments beginning on Friday.

To be matched with a particular opponent in Round one of the Main Tourney or for open gaming on Thursday, or the SK event, please contact us directly by email at Chnogueira@aol.com or through our group, (preferred) yasl@yahoogroups.com. For SK match-ups to be pre-scheduled, please contact mhabrams@comcast.net. In all other instances, players will be matched as they arrive.

Thursday: Open gaming all day. This is a great opportunity to knock off that big scenario you have been giving the eyeball for a while, but have not had time to play.

All players from beginners to experts are encouraged to play, and the emphasis is on having fun. All attendees are automatically entered into a random drawing for fabulous door prizes.

The Nor'easter is Starter Kit (SK) and new ASL player friendly. Mitch Abrams will be the main point of contact on Friday and Saturday to make sure new players and SK players get assistance in finding games against opponents. Tournament Director Carl Nogueira will assist Mitch to this end and also be the main point of contact for both Thursday and Sunday.

Please contact either Mitch (mhabrams@comcast.net) or Carl (chnogueira@aol.com), for more details. It is always recommended that new players notify us of their intention to come so that we can have some matches in place prior to their arrival. That said, if you don't know until the last minute, still come on down, we will work something out to get you gaming!

The main tournament (Tournament Director Carl Nogueira) is 5 rounds (Friday mini players are included in the main tournament) over 3 days and there are also 2 "minis". The Friday mini and Saturday mini are perfect for those who can only make it for 1 day. Don't forget, there are prizes galore and a great raffle too!

Special Student Rate
In the interest of promoting ASL & ASLSK, the Yankee ASL leadership, sponsors of the Nor'Easter ASL Convention (the ASL Tournament / Nor'Easter Starter Group), has decided to offer Junior High and High School students the opportunity to participate in the Convention for a fee of $5.

Those students that want to participate must sign up prior to the event by 03 Mar 2019 and check whether they will participate in the ASL
Tournament or the Starter Group. The $5 is a flat fee and can be used for the full event or just one day of the event.
We believe this will allow students to participate without the financial burden and full cost of the convention.

Starter Kit Players are Welcome!

The scenario list for the main tournament for Nor'easter XXIII has been released. Head on over https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/2019/main.php to see the list and download the scenarios!

I am available for Thursday gaming. My preference is to practice for the first round, but I can let that go if necessary.

NorEaster Results

My thanks to all who came to NorEaster this year - 52 players!

Steve Pleva beat Ron Duenskie in SP249 Non-Stop Gurkhas to take the title. Steve won Joe's awesome diorama above, plus 3 sets of Battle School Dice. Ron claimed the second place plaque and 3 more sets of Battle School DIce.

Gary Mei beat Dave Ginnard, also in SP249, to claim the 3rd place plaque.

Gregg Lupaczyk made the most of his one day gaming pass to win the Sat mini, in a field of 8 players. Gregg did so with the rare "Worden Hat Trick", beating Patrick, John V, then John IV for the plaque.

Ron Duenskie also won the Friday mini, besting the field of four, getting a leg up on his run to 2nd place overall.

Battle School also donated prizes to both mini-tournament winners.

Included in the field of 52 were 5 ASLSK players, helpfully shepherded by Mitch Abrams.

NorEaster Thank Yous

My thanks to the wonderful sponsors of our tourney prizes and raffle prizes:
MMP
Game Toppers LLC
Battle School
Red Headed TShirts
LFT
BFP
Lone Canuck
Michael Rodgers and Chuck Tewksbury also contributed to raffle prizes.

Individual thanks:
Joe Leoce for his incredible diorama, and for his support for NorEaster for approximately 2 decades of producing our first place prize.
Mike Sprague for his role as Minister of Propaganda.
Ralph McDonald for TDing the Saturday "Fog of War" Mini.
Joe Gochinski for TDing and providing prizes for the Friday Mini.
Mitch Abrams for TDing the Starter Kit Players, and for drumming up attendance for the SK players.
And last but not least, my thanks to Carl and Ann Nogueira. Without exaggeration, they are responsible for 90% of the work required for the tourney.
They found our great new location, organized room setup, and produced restaurant recommendations. Carl "beat the bushes" which lead to our excellent attendance. He produced the main tournament scenario list. And this year, as a special perk to all interested attendees, they organized a day trip to the nearby Battleship Cove, home of the USS Massachusetts. Thank you, Ann and Carl.

NorEaster Lost and Found

It wouldn't be an ASL tournament without some lost and found:

One complete picture frame, 21 inches by 29 inches. Someone thought this could possibly belong to Ted Wilcox?

One incomplete picture frame. I have the cardboard backing (23 x 32), and 3 of the 4 black frame pieces. No plexiglass. This was near where Joe Leoce was playing.

One clear plastic ruler. Says "univeral" on it.

Contact me at mallexen (at) yahoo (dot) com for information.

Congrats to Steve, Ron, Gary, Dave and Gregg for their performance in this great tourney. Looks like another awesome trophy diorama by Joe! What type of AFV is that? Sorry to have missed all the great play and camaraderie. How was the battleship tour?

Everyone who went seemed to have a good time. It is their off-season, so the Submarine was not up to snuff, but the rest of the place was fine, absent their snack-bar.
