There are some rumors floating around about MS and Sony announcing the arrival of the next-gen game consoles at 2012's E3:

Report: BOTH New Xbox and PS4 Will Be Shown At E3

But analysts disagree:

Analyst: 'Zero Chance' of PlayStation 4 at E3

One thing is clear: with the PC community coming close to 64-bit critical mass, the consoles can't stay 32-bit for much longer. Of course, the longer the consoles stay 32-bit, the longer PC gaming is forced to stay 32 as well because no AAA dev is going to return to PC only titles. Once again we are held back by the consoles.:(

No Xbox 720 this year:

“We’re in an industry that talks a lot, that likes to tell stories. I am not convinced things will happen this year. Xbox 360′s cycle is not at all finished. The proof is that we don’t see the logic in cutting the price this year. E3 is still premature. What’s certain is that there’ll be nothing new in 2012.”
That's not just bad news for console gamers, it is also bad news for PC gamers. As long as the big studios are forced to work with 5 year old hardware, gaming is not going to advance in the least. So, in other words, expect the mantra of gaming to remain "iteration, not innovation".
