It looks like Note D was added later at some point (I was working from tables in the 1st Edition) - I'll add this in for the next release. In the meantime, you can fix it up yourself by editing $/data/ordnance/british.json (the first entry), then restarting the program.
I don't have a Mac (and likely never will :-/), so I can't create a build myself. It's relatively easy to do, so if someone technical does it, I'll make that build available. Otherwise, you'll have to run the EXE in Wine, or Parallels, or Docker (discussed elsewhere on this thread).
The program works with other configurations, but they are not officially supported. Note that you don't have to use the same VASSAL/VASL for vasl-templates as what you use when actually playing a game.
These are stored in VASL extensions, so you need to tell the program where to find them (Settings dialog, from the File menu). The program doesn't know about every extension, but B+J is one that it does.
vasl-6.6.2.vmod is a file, so it can't "contain" the BFPv5.00.vmdx extension file. The "extensions" setting should be the directory that contains the BFPv5.00.vmdx file.
You're running an old version of Java that VASSAL no longer works with. Clear this setting in vasl-templates, and it will use the Java that comes with VASSAL.
I think you've configured the wrong thing for the VASL module. It should be the .vmod file.
Ah, I see you're using the v5.00 version of the extension. Try the v4.03 version. You can still use v5.00 when playing games, this is just for setting up labels for the scenario.
These settings look OK. A .vmod file is actually just a ZIP file, so copy it somewhere, change the extension to .zip, then double-click on it to see what's inside. You should see a file called buildFile in there.
