Don't understand the purpose of the post. If the suggestion is that a washed out board will provide more contrast with the counters then yes though it may be a solution in search of a problem.

He added a few new buildings over the old ones.

Man, I didn't think I needed to explain this one. It's a comment on the Modern UI, most recently propagated by Gmail, wherein everything is low-contrast and light blue.

I'm glad our boards aren't that way.

You assumed everyone uses G-Mail? I have an account but haven't touched it in years. It lost some cachet when it went from "invite only" to "everybody's got one."

Hmm, I just logged into G-mail and the interface is still the same old black and white one I had before. Sometimes being left out is a good thing I guess?

That more reminded me of some CH cover art.

Excellent "mist" layering, I actually like this much better than the dark layer currently used in vasl and can be mistaken to not be present at all.

What’s wrong with this again? The map looks pretty clear to me. Nice new look as well!
Looks like on my laptop and phone that it is on the other side of a room full of smoke totally fogged over not clear at all

Guys, Tom was making a joke. I believe it was some social commentary around a trend he is seeing in modern user interfaces towards this fog-shrouded look. I haven't experienced it myself, so it isn't resonating with me.
