Well, I understand you quite well. I have been working these last days on a master in theology degree 'memoir', plowing through German scholars' doctorate thesis on the subject... Hebrew (it is an Old Testament subject) is cool to study, but German...:scream:

Hello

Hi, this is Kyp Hexler and I am new. I hope to learn how to play this game. If anyone wants to try VASL out with me and teach me how to play while doing the beginner games like ASL1 and stuff like that, let me know.

Welcome here, Kyp!
Have you heard about the Starter Kits?
They help to enter the system smoothly.
But if you have enough courage to directly jump into full swing ASL, do it!
There are plenty of players who can lend you a hand to learn the game, either on VASL or Face to Face.
To learn quickly, using a vocal device like Skype or Teamspeak is recommended, as explanations are better said than written.
To find opponents whithin your GMT sector, go an see the ASL Frappr map, that lists players on a world map.

Cheers

Robin

Hi from Brit newbie

Hi, just like to say a big hello to all the ASLers on here.

I have just started the learning process and building up my collection, formerly a SQL player back in the eighties, still got the complete set in immaculate as new condition.

Any other London (UK) players on these boards to help in the process.

Regards

Steve

Welcome Steve!
Have you tried the Starter Kits?
They helped a lot of previous SL players to enter ASL world.
Anyway, feel at home.

Best regards,

Robin

Hi and thanks for the welcome Robin, yes I have both the starter kits and have already started on the main course, buying the ASLRB and modules.

Found use again for my old SL boards as well it seems.

Had another British player/forum member, PM me about finding a mentor as well, glad I joined now.

Welcome, Doug!

Do you have all of the modules? Do you VASL? Do you have FtF opponents in your area?

Hi Alan, thanks yes I do have all the modules and pretty much everything that has been put out for ASL love the game systems detail.I have tried to VASL but having trouble loading the maps they come up as error. This month trying FTF for first time , happy to start actually playing, keep my wife happy that money spent is being used.

Have you tried posting your VASL woes in the VASL folder? There are a couple of regulars that will solve ANY VASL troble you may have. They sure have solved mine more than once.

Welcome to the Forums Doug,

Well after four years of lurking around the forums I had better stand forward and introduce myself.

My "true name" is James Crosfield.

I live in Dorset a really rural area in the UK.

Why Meysey Hampton? when I had to first set a user name I had a village map hanging on the wall above my PC. It is hand drawn and was given to my wife by the first village school she taught in. Meysey Hampton is a small village in the Cotswolds. The name is very similar to what people can be called around here in the "West Country" and hence my avatar of a typical West County man.

Other than ASL.....
Wife and two boys 1 and 4 (thid on the way)
I have this dream that one day I will plant my own cider orchard
Do play other wagames
Work for the Ministry of Defence in the UK running training areas

In ASL..
Pacific first
Never turn down a campaign
Fav Scenario.. probably The Tractor Works at the moment
Standing in the UK ladder...near the bottom
Just finished Those Ragged Bloody Heros, very good
I have three ftf opponents
Play once a fortnight
Attend about one UK tourney a year
Still trying to get VASL and SKYPE sorted

James

I hope you will have a good time on this forum.
There are some flamewar bursts from time to time, but people are usually polite around here.

I'm not particularly new to ASL, but I am new to the forum,( to computers too).
My name is Jan Rychetnik: I'm a Czech born Brit. My parents came over to England in '68 when the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia.
Honza is Czech for Jan or John.
Been playing ASL for about 10 years with a regular partner called Trevor.
In 10 years we've managed 100 scenarios & no CG's, is that good going?
I suppose it's slow and steady.
I used to play SL when it first came out with schoolfriends.
It's nice to be able to join a forum like this and discuss the game you love!
(computers will never cease to amaze me).

Welcome both new Brits!

Hi James, Hi Jan,

Glad you have both dropped Concealment! Always nice to see new Brits, even if I might only ever see you at tourneys! That was for Jan, James I will be seeing you this week I hope!

Get yourselves registered with the WARS ladder too, that way our games will 'count' for something here!:cheeky:

Use the forums as much as you can, they are great fun and very informative - I doubt there is a better online community of ASLers out there!

Hey guys

Well, after dropping out of ASL entirely for more than 2 years, I've decided to pop back in. Credit an email from an old VASL opponent and a surprise in the mail (in the form of AOO, which I had forgotten I had pre-ordered all those years ago).

Anyway, I'll be poking around.

And I see that very little has changed since I've been gone. Pit and Paul K and still going at it over scenario design! Sigh.

Welcome back Mike! Ya, not much has changed, just the personalities. Perhaps you and I can hook up for a vasl game.

Hi all,

I'm on the threshold of getting back into ASL after about a decade. I recently picked up the 2nd edition rules and the 3rd edition BV. I do have all the AH modules but they're about 2000 miles away (I'm in Montana, it's in Tennessee) sitting in an attic, nearly forgotten. It may be time for a backup set.

Montana being Montana, wide open spaces and all, I'm giving VASL a try.

Welcome, Clinton!

Another member, Jeff Barber, is also from Montana. (Although, Montana being Montana, you may not be near each other. . . )
