Welcome here, Roger !
Feel free to ask any rules question in the rule and errata subforum (try a forum search before, as many of the questions often have been adressed). People here usually answer quickly and remain polite (unless you come ranting against the game system with "reality arguments" ).
It is quite significative to see that quite a number of prior SL (and gamettes) players are entering the ASL world with the help of the SKs.
Enjoy !

Cheers

Robin

Bought my first SL game in 1977. Played it till the color on most of my 4-6-7's was gone. Obtained COI and COD. Played these alot to. Then we moved and I had no one to FtF with. So, I kind of lost interest.

Flash forward to 1986. I am in the Army in Germany. My roomdog, (Dave Crumby KIA Iraq 91) and I happen across a copy of ASL/ BV at the PX. Hooaa! We dug in. Eventually we had about 15 guys playing, (including the CO). Lots O-fun while it lasted. But as I said Dave bought the farm in DS. So I kind of didn't want to play anymore, plus I'd PCSed to the 101st.

Anyway, I found my old copy of Squad Leader last year. Then I picked up SK1 and I'm all in again. :salute:
Roger, where in NoCA are you, specifically?

Hell,
I thought ALL marines were Infantry?

Man, this sure does pop a bubble....

I sure am glad I was a US Army Scout....

I could do all kinds of jobs, and still be called a "Scout"

I've been reading the forums for awhile, but just signed up recently.

I've been playing SL since about '85 and ASL since '91. That said, I'm, a still a newbie since I haven't had FtF opponents very often during the last 14 years.

I live in the Pacific NW and in the late '90s I met up 2 or 3 times with the Berserk Commissars in Portland, but my play tailed off as I started a family and real life intruded on play time. My highlight was taking Dade to the final close combat roll before losing in heroic fashion.

Anyway, I've stayed on top of ASL and played a half dozen VASL games to keep the rules somewhat fresh. Recently, I decided to push myself to play more (AOO coming out helped me get motivated).

Last weekend I again went to a Berserk Commissar meeting and played Clayton in Escape to Wiltz (another loss, bringing my record to 1-4 against BC players).

I'm hoping to make it there at least every other month this year as business travel and other obligations allow. I'm also hoping to get some VASL playing in and make the WWF tournament in Portland this year.

I'm anxiously awaiting my AOO pre-order and hoping to put in another for VotG soon. I feel like I know several of you, although I only know the forum personas.

Anyway, I'll be reading and hopefully join in some discussions on the greatest game around.

Close...it's actually "Every Marine is a Rifleman".

Kind of the opposite of how you described yourself as a Scout in the army...regardless of your MOS or job training or cross training or TAD in the Marines (for instance My MOS was Logistics, my job was Maintenance Management and I cross-trained and did TAD in Embarkation) you were assumed to be able to fill the role of Rifleman at any time...think of it as cannon-fodder on-call.

Besides...I think Kevin's referance to being an Infantry officer was to be sure that nobody made the horrible mistake of assuming that he was in the Air-Wing...they're not *really* Marines, but don't tell them that!

Chris! Awesome! Great to see you here and see that you are back in action. I'm up the road from you in Medford so maybe we can get together some time.

Chris;

Glad to hear you are back in the ASL "fold". Are you still in SoCal? Going to WCM in Irvine Feb 23-26? SoCal ASL is still going strong since you took a hiatus...we'd certainly enjoy having you back in the club...we've missed you!

hey,
Chas, it'd be great to get up your way for a game!
Most likely it'd be at WWF this year.(?)
Scott, I've got my fingers crossed to come down to
WCM this year. I've got some networking to do which
would be well served by my being there. I'm hoping;
it'd be good to see some "ASL Faces" again!

Heyas

Hey guys,

I've been playing ASL for a couple of years, on and off.

My main difficulty has been to find available face-to-face players.

Still, i've played SL for a long time and bought the ASL rulebook 15 years ago.

Anyone around Quebec City, Canada?
