I can't say that I would have much to contribute to the forums, I have been out of touch too long. But one never knows.

Exactly - who knows? Look at @Actionjick for example. He came back to the forum from out of nowhere and now he seems to live here. And he brought along his buddies: A colonel, a major, and a sergeant with whom he likes to share a swig of spirits.
Why are still trying to kick gently encourage him to pick up playing again.

Hello, everybody!

I am not exactly new here, but it has been a while. This seemed like as good a spot as any to say hello and to get reacquainted.

I have lurked only briefly in the last couple of days. I recognize a lot of names, and I have read a few threads. Some fascinating topics, and some that seem like they were topics 30 years ago (that is not meant to be dismissive).

There was a time when ASL was a lifestyle game for me, even when - perhaps - my time would have been more profitably spent in other endeavors. No relationships were ruined thereby, but...

I went cold turkey on ASL a few years ago but kept everything and kept buying. I have everything produced by AH and MMP, some in duplicate. Ah, but I have not played in some time.

Now I have far too many interests to make a "lifestyle" anything. But ASL was my first love, and I am clearing a large space in my life for it again. My first cold plunge (if you will pardon the expression for those encased in the North American deep freeze...) back into ASL will be this weekend at the MuseumFest. Such is the current plan.

I think that I should do all right, if I keep it to Chapters A thru D. I have found that much is still entrapped in my neural network. For better or worse.

I can't say that I would have much to contribute to the forums, I have been out of touch too long. But one never knows.

von M is correct in saying that you never know what you can contribute and 100% correct in saying that I practically live on Gamesquad. It is my refugium from the real world.
I haven't played ASL since sometime in June of '95 ( ignore my avatar that was an exercise in vanity ) but still try to contribute to the community in my own small way.

To paraphrase The Babe: don't let the fear of appearing inexperienced or ignorant keep you from posting. I do it all the time.

Hi All,

I am new to this site but a long time Squad Leader player. Started playing in ‘79 as a young teen. Bought all three gamettes and moved to ASL when the rulebook and Beyond Valor were released. I stayed hardcore with it until the original AH version of Gung Ho was released. Real life and a wife took over. I am now a happily divorced board gamer with moderate free time to get back into it. I nearly had to sell a kidney but have all the MMP core modules and ready to have fun with the game again!

I really enjoy FTF games but I am getting a handle on VASL to increase my potential opponents.

Hey fellows, its been a long time, I have been getting back into board wargames a bit again playing on vassal. I retired from ASL back in 2014, so its been 10 years, my stuff is all packed away but I got the eRules and the vasl stuff and every once in while I get the itch but have not pulled the trigger to jump back in. For those that don't remembered or know me, I played ASL from 1985 till 2014. With a break when I was in the Army from 1987 to 1991.

I am also a 13 percenter. I had experienced a "widowmaker" heart attack at 8:00 am on August 20th of 2023 at the old age of 57, my left artery was 100% blocked and my right 90% blocked, and had a 13% chance of surviving that. But God spared my life and did not allow my wife to become an early widow. My lifestyle has completely changed, I am on a Mediterranean diet, cut out all sugar, fats and sodium, workout three times a week now and have lost near 70 pounds and back into my size 30 pants and small or medium shirts.

So its good to be seen, better then being viewed, and I am glad to be alive.

Maybe I'll blow off the dust and cobwebs of my mind and try to play ASL again...

Welcome back! I was wondering where you went off to. I'm glad to hear that you survived the worst of your ordeal, and I think you're going to love the 'Mediterranean diet' and its benefits. 57 is 'not old' IMO, you should have plenty of good years ahead, god willing.

Thanks Steve! We are in an exclusive club, that I'd never wish for anyone to join. God certainly has been very gracious to me and I am trying to make the most of my second chance at life and live accordingly.
