Love the game!

I have read the manual, tried many variantions and inputs, but I still have this problem.

I set the aircraft mission via the Aircraft Dialog, Mission Dialog. The aircraft launches and proceeds to complete the mission.

Now, if I select the aircraft and right-click on a new destination or target it will follow my command.

However, I am unable to get the aircraft to comply with a new or modify mission directive.

I have tried deleting the original mission and placing in a new mission, also tried just modifying, but still no joy.

Any suggestions?

I have emailed HPS customer support and will post their answer when it arrives.

In the meantime I have been running the tutorial scenario with the AI playng against itself with one side using FOW. With no FOW on the other side I can read, follow and modify the aircraft and mission diaglogs. Hopefully the answer will show come up this way.

I read the manual several times again, plus google, searched anything on modifying the dialog, but no joy.

So have started playing the tutorial again from the Japanese side. The American side is played by the AI automatic with FOW.

However from the Japanese side I play the AI on automatic and use the pull-down menu to toggle to manual to keep track of the packages and any modifiications that the AI does.

Then I go back to AI automatic.

Also watching for any unusual emergent behaviour playing it on partial automatic AI.

I'm posting this dialog for other players, because there is so little information available.

Ok .... it finally makes sense.

Using the "getting started" scerario I found playing the Japanese side flattened the learning curve for using the mission dialog rather than playing the American side.

On the Japanese side I used the two CA's Tone & Chikuma to practice with the two types of seaplanes ... the Jake and Dave and ignored using the CV and it's aircraft.

The Mission Dialog is just a master flight plan that I can add groups of airplanes to carry out various roles.

The CA's can launch seaplanes in any direction at any speed, but can only pick up seaplanes when stopped. Using the Mission Dialog seaplanes can search, provide escort, but not strike. However, when left clicking on a seaplane and then right clicking, the seaplane will attack enemy aircraft, strafe and follow/circle your own ships and aircraft.

Using that experience made it easier to use the aircraft on the CV's.

One "gamey" thing I noticed was if you right click a seaplane and then use the pulldown down menu and highlight spotting, the seaplane's speed drops to zero and it stops on the ocean. Increasing it's speed, it will take off again.

Also you an transfer seaplanes to other CA's if there is a vacant slot to land on.

Since I don't like micromanaging, I prefer using the Mission Dialog as the main interphase between me and the aircraft and watching the events unfold, rather than using the manual mode by right clicking.

I have been playing the getting started scenario a lot and I have been coming across a small problem.

The game would freeze when I had aircraft launch their torpedoes with the game speed at 10X. Slowing the game to normal speed made no difference. I had the same problem running the Coral Sea scenario.

I tried the game on two different computers and found the same problem.

When I re-installed the game without the latest patch 1.01 the game ran fine. HPS has been advised.

I have found some pre-made sceranios that are better for learning the mission dialog interphase than the "getting started" scenario.

These are 10, 15, 20 and 30 minutes in length and range from carrier operations to aircraft already airborne that you assign missions to. You just have to scroll through the scn files to see their length.

Once the missions were set, I increased the speed 10X to see the impact of my decisions. I then re-ran it using a different mission set.
