I recently found a wonderful book on the battle between the German Raider Kormoran, and the Light Cruiser HMAS Sydney. Title is "Bitter Victory" "The Death of HMAS Sydney"
Author is Wesley Olson. These two ships destroyed each other, and the Sydney was lost with all hands. I had no idea till I read this what a shock the loss was, and still is, to Australia.

The book goes into great detail about what is known about the battle, plus a lot more. It was written before the wreck of the Sydney was found in 2008, but the conclusions drawn stand up very well. I found it a very good read.

Also has anybody ever found the narrative of the XO of Warspite written after Jutland? I read this once many years ago and have been on the look out for it ever since. I would really like to find it somewhere on the Internet.

Anyone have any opinions on the 2 volume series about the RJW by Piotr Olender?
I think it's a good overview of the naval War between Russia and Japan. Battles are described in sufficient detail, strategical and operational issues are discussed, technical info on the ships is sketchy, but that's not the main focus of this series.

The RN's official history of WW1 naval operations, by Sir Julian Corbett. These are unsold copies of the 5-volume reprint published in 1997, complete with all maps and illustrations, for only $175. EXCELLENT deal and highly recommended.

BH - I agree (I'm reading this series now) but BUYER BEWARE. These do not appear to have the "map cases under a separate cover" which are boxes of folded paper maps which absolutely ROCK. The fine print below on ebay says:
"TWO MAP CASES IN THE ORIGINAL SET ARE NOT INCLUDED-ONLY THE 5 TEXT VOLUMES"
Your local college library may have access to these and I found a used set of least the volume 1 map case for a reasonable price...but just beware that you'll be missing some of the maps. I've already called the Imperial War Museum people who do the most recent reprints...they couldn't afford to reproduce the map cases either :(

Littorio Class

Although nothing to do with Jutland or the RJW, I'm sure the battleship lovers amongst us will like to know that a 326 page book on the Littorio class is due from Seaforth Publishing on the 30th of June. The Naval Institute Press are due to publish it in America in November. The list price from Seaforth is £45, but Amazon have it for pre order at £31.50.
Sorry about not posting under a new heading. I pressed the wrong button.
