Some days it takes me a while.

I was going through the items on my hard drive to verify that everything in the HPS section is up to date and ran into a problem.

The most recent update for Napoleon's Russian Campaign is the NRC 106 patch set from 2007.
There has not been a "No CD" patch published yet.

Would it be a problem of great magnitude to publish a single, generic "No CD" patch for the orphan games as yet without one, or for all HPS/JTS games, for that matter ?

If this is an insurmountable problem, could the schedule be nudged a bit so that we can cross the Berezina before snowfall ?

Many thanks,
Old Dog

Just saw the note indicating that we should e-mail such requests to HPS, and complied.

Only a few hours later, I rec'd a response from Rich Hamilton resolving my query:

A tad disappointed to NOT see real weather values in the PDT files. Just ONE line for January 1st, 1812 for most.

If someone wants to work on this with Rich's group please come forward.

I am sure that some of the battles involved mud, snow, etc. Could not all have been Clear weather.

Or is the majority of the community against the weather effects?

Also noted that Dragoons can dismount but also carry firearms. I shied away from that after the experiences of mounted fire in Jena. There were a couple of scenarios that involved dragoons having D rating AND firearms and I believe I have changed those to be D S (saber) so that we do not end up with the "cavalry caracole" madness of the 16th-17th century.

Cavalry rarely fired mounted - I remember reading of a cavalry regiment that tried to stop a charge with their firearms. Mistake. Regiment was routed and sent running. I am sure that a charge was stopped but cavalry rarely used firearms while mounted.

If you want to see mounted fire say nothing. If you want to make your voice heard for stopping it speak up now. Don't belly ache later about it.

Also: the scenarios were designed with a certain number of wagons for a reason. While we usually do not consume all of the supply wagon points the dragoons are going to end up being a burden to the supply system.

One of those things that Rich Hamilton can expect is emails which say, "How come you guys didn't allocate enough wagons?" Well the reason is ... THEY DID! Only with the addition of mounted fire the wagons now get consumed at a higher rate.

I would guess that six wagons per side will be consumed by the cavalry TOPS but hey, they could use up points better meant for good infantry units.
