Listening to the theme of Firefly when I saw this in the related videos section next to it. Making these discoveries are really fun.

Nice song and pretty lady, but I don't recognize it as being from Firefly at all, and I'm a big Firefly fan. Was it from the movie and not the series? I've only seen the movie 2-3 times.

It was "related" to the theme song in Youtube's related videos section. I saw it thinking some woman made a cover (had lots of views) so I gave it a shot. It's actually her own song called Firefly, nothing to do with the show. She is pretty good so I posted it here. Sorry for being a bit unclear :X

You seem to really like Japanese culture, especially music! I am curious: did you take any Japanese language courses in college?

My latest musical fancy: Zero 7: In the Waiting Line. I like the laid-back grove.

This is a scene from a 12 episode anime titled "Kids on the Slope" about best friends who love playing jazz during their high school years. At the time this scene happens in the story they were having a fight of sorts and resolve via playing jazz in front of their high school at the festival. This is one of the best scenes/moments I've watched and listened to in any anime. Hope everyone enjoys the music. (I chose a video that give a little before and after to give some minor context.)

Yes - Close to the Edge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51oPKLSuyQY

Best wishes,
Steve
Yeah, the golden age of prog rock. It's hard to go wrong with Close to the Edge: multidimensional, epic, melodic, intense. It's also interesting to note that to their credit, Yes is one of the few progressive bands who are not dark. I tend to agree with ex-Yes drummer Bill Bruford though when he said a couple of years ago that the band should think seriously of retiring. Squire, White, and Howe just can't seem to let it go, and they've turned Yes into the ultimate Yes tribute band. In any event I never liked when the old guys fill out a reformed version of their band with much younger members for touring. Just seems odd to me. On a related note, I saw the Emerson, Lake & Palmer reunion show from last year, and they were great. Greg Lake has gotten fat and his voice sounds heavy, but they still play really well, and drummer Carl Palmer is the most in-shape and youngest looking 60-something guy I've ever seen.

BTW, I think my all-time favorite prog piece is Cinema Show from Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. An amazing composition, and Tony Banks' apocalyptic keyboard solo is prog at its best.

I almost forgot: You Homeworld fans out there may recall that Yes did a song for that game's soundtrack, and as it happened it was the best thing they'd written in years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2AhjhYWDUM

This came on an "'80s Classics" internet station recently. Man, I had forgotten all about this song!
