Just finished watching Cowboy Bebop the Movie. The opening and ending sequences are fantastic and the accompanying music really lend to the atmosphere and mood of the show.

I didn't care for the movie. The whole story was too ground-based compared to the regular series. It felt like the entire episode was a standard cop and robbers schtick set on a contemporary Earth. And the dogfight at the end really felt tacked on. However, I confess to getting misty-eyed when the movie started and I got to see my favorite characters again! :)

This is a great song from Mirwais called Paradise - Not for Me. It is downtempo electronica, as is my wont these days.

Really!? I like it quite a bit. And while I agree I liked that it took place on Mars, very little is explored of Mars in the show so I liked that we got to see more of Mars. To me the planet is the central hub of the system after the gate explosion ruined Earth. And it did have that schtick but the movie is essentially one big episode, the director basically says this flat out. And the dogfight is one of my all-time favorite sequences in the entire Cowboy Bebop series. And right?! Also seeing those old men again was great too lol.

As for music:

He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot by Grandaddy. Heard it on a Spotify "space music" channel the other day and I can't get it out of my head. The somber music combined with the repetitive lyrics keep it bouncing around inside my skull! On the bright side, it goes great with Evochron Mercenary!

Lyrics:
Adrift again 2000 man
You lost your maps,
You lost the plans,
Did you hear them yell,
"Land damn it land?"
You say you can't,
Well I hope you can,
I hope you can

How's it goin' 2000 man?
Welcome back to solid ground my friend,
I heard all your controls were jammed,
Well it's just nice to have you back again

But I guess they still don't understand
And they can never understand
And they said go find 2000 man
And they said tell him we've got new plans
But instead I'm here to tell you friend

I believe they want you to give in
Are you giving in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?

(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)
(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)
(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)
(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)

Are you givin' in 2000 man?
(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
(Did you love this world
And this world not love you?)
(Did you love this world?)

Are you givin' in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?
Are you givin' in 2000 man?

Don't give in 2000 man.

Lyrics:
Very Bowieish! Almost something that could have been on "The man who sold the World".

very nice Scott. I liked that!

this was a bit too restrained and sparse to fit on that album. That was the album that showcased Mick Ronson, and was probably the heaviest thing Bowie ever did. That song would have been very much in place on the previous album he did.

Listening to an old favorite of mine from one of those great albums nearly lost to time from the my favorite guitar player along with the great Cozy Powell. :)

Glad you guys liked He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot. There is a strong similarity to Major Tom with that one, and a bit of Pink Floyd, too. Definitely gonna have to buy the MP3 as good downtempo electronica is not that common (but I am building a nice library with the help of Pandora, Spotify and others :)).

Here's another: Backwords by Porcelain Raft:

I like this too!! Good voice!
Yeah. I had a long day at work one day and went to the bar after for a drink (probably around midnight). This is a bar that's usually got a decent amount of people, but it was pretty dead so the bartender was controlling the jukebox. Anyway, this song came on and I quite liked it. Total pimp music :D

I bought the CD on amazon for like $1-2 used.
